American Vandal’ Asks “Who Is The Turd Burglar?” In Season 2 Trailer

Series Name: American Vandal Season 2

Release Date: September 14, 2018

Platform: Netflix

American Vandal Cast: Tyler Alvarez, Griffin Gluck, Travis Tope, Melvin Gregg

Creators: Dan Perrault, Tony Yacenda

The Pitch: When someone puts laxatives in the food at St. Bernadine, a private Catholic high school, the school descends into chaos as students begin pooping all over the hallways. The “Brown Out,” as it becomes known, is believed to be the work of an anonymous vandal known only as The Turd Burglar. Just days after the attack, Kevin McClain is expelled for committing the crime, and in order to help prove his innocence, Kevin enlists public school documentarians Peter Maldonado and Sam Ecklund. Peter and Sam have a successful track record when it comes to exonerations, but discovering the identity of the Turd Burglar proves to be much more difficult than anticipated. Will they be able to find the truth? Is justice being served? And who is the Turd Burglar?

Why We’re Excited: American Vandal creators Dan Perrault and Tony Yacenda have kept a tight lid on Season 2 details, but now, we finally know what to expect in the (Peabody-winning) show’s second season. The Turd Burglar plot seems just as gleefully immature as Season 1’s exploration of “Who Drew the Dicks?” and judging by the trailer, the show will lean even further into true crime tropes. Poop is no joke — except when it is, as Sam reminds Peter — and naturally, these two will stop at nothing to get to the bottom of this shit-stained mystery.

Aside from the obvious hilarity of its plot, Season 2 will likely benefit from showing Peter and Sam out of their element. Sure, Peter and Sam weren’t the “cool kids” in Season 1 (until their documentary came out, at least), but they were students at the school where the dicks were drawn, and their knowledge of the context proved critical to solving the crime. But this time around, Peter and Sam don’t go to the school where the crime was committed, which makes their job infinitely harder. Before they can even begin throwing things up on a bulletin board, they have to learn the ins and outs of St. Bernadine: who Kevin is friends with, which groups are cool and which aren’t, who has access to the cafeteria on a daily basis, etc. It will be interesting to see how Peter and Sam tackle this new challenge — and if St. Bernadine’s students take advantage of their ignorance.
