Carson Kressley Is Throwing Major Shade At Netflix’s ‘Queer Eye’ Reboot

Carson Kressley is throwing major shade at Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot. At a Television Academy event Monday night, the original Queer Eye For the Straight Guy fashion expert took a swipe at the revival when he said that the new Fab Five can’t compete with the Bravo’s OG crew, which included Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Kressley, and Jai Rodriguez.

When asked how he feels about Queer Eye’s Emmy nomination for Outstanding Structured Reality Program, Kressley said, “I’m thrilled that they’re nominated, but it was a little more groundbreaking when we won an Emmy back in 2004.” This is true, in part: the United States has changed a lot since 2004, and Americans as a whole are much more accepting of the LGBT+ community. But that being said, saying that one show is more “groundbreaking” than other feels antithetical to the spirit of the series. Queer Eye is about bettering yourself and being bad ass and owning it, not putting others down.

Kressley’s comments may come as a shock to many fans, especially considering that the reboot’s producers and stars have been incredibly vocal about wanting to pay homage to the original series. In June, Queer Eye producer David Collins told Entertainment Weekly that the “original Fab Five” were “trailblazers” and that Bobby, Karamo, Tan, Antoni, and Jonathan are successful because they get to “stand on the shoulders” of the original cast.

Before Queer Eye Season 1 hit Netflix, the original Fab Five met the New Fab five, and there didn’t seem to be any bad blood between them — and Kressley, in particular, led the conversation. So what changed? Did Carson get into some beef with Antoni over guacamole? Did Jonathan give him a bad haircut? While it’s certainly possible that something went down — and if that’s the case, spill the tea, sis — it seems more likely that Kressley is simply jealous of the Fab Five’s newfound fame.
