‘AHS: Apocalypse’: The Rubber Man and the Coven Are Back in First Trailer

The first footage of American Horror Story: Apocalypse is finally here. For the last few weeks, FX and Ryan Murphy have been teasing the new season with images of creepy babies, ominous-looking bone combs, and demonic hands, but this new trailer is the real deal. Do we finally know what the highly-anticipated Murder HouseCoven crossover is all about? Uh, yes and no. The AHS: Apocalypse trailer is light on plot details, but it does give fans an important first look at this so-called apocalypse and re-introduces fans to some of their favorite characters from the past seven seasons.

“It’s the end of the world,” a voiceover says to open the trailer, and we’d do well to believe them. Leslie Grossman, Evan Peters, and Joan Collins are just minding their business on a plane when suddenly they experience a massive bout of turbulence, and wham — the next thing we know, we’re staring at a desolate landscape of broken-down cars, planes, and helicopters.

Fans have less than a second to check out Murphy’s post-apocalyptic world before the trailer shifts into recap mode. Murder House fans may remember the sinister rubber man suit, which was inhabited by Tate (Peters), Ben Harmon (Dylan McDermott), and Chad Warwick (Zachary Quinto) in Season 1. The Coven segment provides a return to the campy fun of Season 3, complete with slow-walking from Sarah Paulson, Frances Conroy, and Taissa Farmiga’s band of witches. “I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me,” says Emma Roberts, repeating her iconic Coven line. Yas bitch, I did, but I’m so happy you’re back (Roberts was the best part of Coven, don’t @ me).

The official American Horror Story account tweeted the short promo with the caption, “A glimpse of what tomorrow brings.” Does that mean that FX is dropping a full trailer today? Or is this just Murphy’s way of telling us that the apocalypse is coming to fuck us all over?

American Horror Story: Apocalypse premieres next (!) Wednesday, September 12 on FX.
