Cable Girls Season 3 just hit Netflix today, which begs the question…Have you even been watching Cable Girls?

In just a few years, Netflix has morphed into one of the premiere destinations for frothy foreign dramas. Cable Girls, or Las Chicas del Cable was one of the streaming service’s very first Spanish Originals. The series evokes the sumptuous and stylish settings of Netflix library mainstays like Velvet and The Time In Between, but Cable Girls is its own addictive beast. It’s a sexy show that bucks its setting and embraces some hyper-progressive storytelling.

If you’re on the fence about whether or not you should give the show a shot (or if you watched it ages ago and need a refresher), here’s our quick guide to all things Cable Girls.

What Is Cable Girls? And Who ARE The Cable Girls?

Cable Girls is a Netflix Original hailing from Spain. It takes place in 1920s Madrid and follows the lives of four young women employed at an early telecommunications company:

• “Lidia” is a beautiful woman hiding a number of secrets, including her past life as “Alba.” As Alba she was wrongfully accused of murder and forced to sneak into the telephone company undercover as a part of a massive heist in order to save herself from jail. However, once she’s a cable girl, she not only discovers a circle of supportive friends, but learns that a handsome stranger from her past is a supervisor. (IT’S COMPLICATED.)
• Carlota is another beautiful woman, but she’s blonde. Carlota is torn between her husband to be and her burgeoning feelings for Sara. EXPECT GENDER FLUIDITY AND POLYAMORY!!!
• Angeles is the angelically beautiful one, also blonde. (It took me a little while to tell Carlota and Angeles apart, but Carlota’s blonde is more Jean Harlowe.) Sadly, Angeles is an abusive relationship with her philandering husband, Mario. Season 2 takes a very Big Little Lies-esque turn for Angeles.
• Marga is the very sweet and beautiful one of the group. She’s got a Louise Brooks bob and is involved with Pablo, a man trying to extricate himself from a complicated romance.

What’s Las Chicas del Cable? Is It a Different Show?

Las Chicas del Cable is just the Spanish name for Cable Girls. That’s it. They are the same exact show.

Can I Watch Cable Girls Dubbed In English? Can I Watch It With Subtitles? HOW WILL I KNOW WHAT’S GOING ON!?!?

Netflix offers 6 different dubbed versions of the show and a number of different subtitles. While the show was originally recorded in European Spanish, you can watch the show dubbed in English, German, French, Italian, or in European Spanish Audio Description (for the visually impaired). You can then set the subtitles in English, European Spanish, French, Traditional Chinese, or Simplified Chinese.

Personally, I prefer to watch the show in European Spanish with English subtitles, but that’s just me. Many English-speaking Americans prefer to watch the show dubbed in English.
