One of ‘Sons of Anarchy’s Most Memorable Characters Is Back for ‘Mayans MC’

When you’re in the world of Sons of Anarchy, you’re in it for life. At least that’s how it feels watching Mayans M.C., FX’s latest biker drama set in the world of SOA. But Mayans‘ latest SAMCRO cameo isn’t a one-time role. It’s someone you probably perversely love and that you’re going to be seeing a lot more often. Spoilers ahead.

Set four years after the conclusion of Sons of Anarchy, Mayans follows the conflicted life of EZ (JD Pardo), a young man who is torn between doing the right thing and protecting his family as well as the Mayans Motorcycle Club. Kurt Sutter and Elgin James’ first episode was practically a festival of knowing Sons of Anarchy winks. Before the season aired, we already knew that Emilio Rivera would be returning to play Marcus Alvarez, the president of the Mayans Oakland chapter and a reluctant SAMCRO ally who immediately shows up in Mayans. But that first episode also included guest appearances from SOA matriarch Gemma (Katey Sagal) and San Bernardino’s SAMCRO President, Les Packer (Robert Patrick).

But Mayans’ latest returning character is far less glamorous than any of these badasses. Welcome back Chucky Marstein (Michael Ornstein), SOA’s resident compulsive masturbator.

Chucky started off as recently-released inmate that Otto (Sutter) asked SAMCRO to protect. His, shall we say, nervous tic quickly proved too much for the club. That paired with the fact he lied to SAMCRO about a stash of money led the club to abandoning their mission and dump Chucky into the hands of the Triads. But slowly Chucky became an ally. After the Triads grew tired of him and cut off a couple of his fingers, he was unofficially adopted by SAMCRO’s grump with a heart of gold Tig (Kim Coates). Over Sons of Anarchy‘s seven seasons he testified in court for the club, ran all sorts of illegal missions, and cooked the books for SAMCRO’s porn production company. He’s a creep, but he’s a creep one biker club begrudgingly accepted.

Chucky only appeared in Mayans for a second, working on paperwork at a biker-loved scrapyard. But according to GameSpot’s recent interview with showrunner and executive producer Elgin James, this character isn’t going to be a one-time appearance but a recurring character.

“[Ornstein] does a lot on our show,” he said. “I mean, he’s another one, it’s not just a little like, ‘Hey, check this out, isn’t this funny?’ Like Chucky plays a role in the season and in the series.” Though James wouldn’t reveal exactly what we can expect from Chucky this season, we can be sure it’s going to be memorable.

New episodes of Mayans M.C. premiere on FX Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET.
