Emma Stone and Jonah Share a “Cosmic Connection” in New ‘Maniac’ Trailer

Before audiences get a chance to see what it actually is, part of what makes Maniac one of the fall’s most anticipated new shows is that it’s a premise that could lead to anything.

That goes for the trailers, too. The initial teaser pointed to a colorful, ominous opening. The first official extended look hinted at a more comprehensive look at the possibilities of the mind. This exclusive last look, which you can watch below before all ten episodes drop next Friday, goes more toward an overarching sense of destiny between the characters played by Emma Stone and Jonah Hill.

There are a few more details about the facility that helps bring those two together in alternate worlds. There’s another rousing speech by Justin Theroux’s experimental drug trial doctor. And there’s even a small glimpse of Sally Field!

As Stone and Hill’s characters make their way through alternate existences and a bevy of different costume changes (that Warren Moon jersey could easily be its own character), this trailer also gives a few additional insights into what genres those adventures will venture through. (Time will tell if some of these episodes are stealth Wolf of Wall Street and Gangster Squad sequels.)

Maniac comes from the mind of creator/writer Patrick Somerville, with all ten episodes directed by Cary Fukunaga. The series also features Sonoya Mizuno, as well as turns from Julia Garner and Billy Magnussen.

Maniac premieres September 21 on Netflix.
