Last night on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, the host welcomed former Secretary of State John Kerry for a one-on-one interview to discuss Donald Trump’s recent accusatory tweet directed at him.
“John Kerry had illegal meetings with the very hostile Iranian Regime, which can only serve to undercut our great work to the detriment of the American people,” Trump declared. “He told them to wait out the Trump Administration! Was he registered under the Foreign Agents Registration Act? BAD!”
What Maher wanted to know was what encouraged the president’s sudden interest in Kerry. “I told the truth,” the former White House official said, adding, “Henry Kissinger for 40 years been traveling to Russia, to China. There’s absolutely nothing unusual about it, having a conversation.”
Kerry then went on the offensive, firing back at POTUS: “He really is a rare combination,” he said of Trump. “He’s got the maturity of an eight-year-old boy with the insecurity of a teenage girl.”

Also appearing on last night’s episode was Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer, who claimed that the NBA is more racially diverse and has younger fans than the NFL. Because of this, he is encouraging the league’s players to use their platform to “express themselves.”
“I’ll speak for the NBA,” he said. “We believe our players should express themselves. We are pleased to see our players express themselves. I encourage our players, use your platform. Speak.”
Maher then discussed with his panel how the U.S. government uses the NFL, which has been said to have a mostly Republican fan base, “to put on this recruiting show,” comparing “the flyovers and the flags” to “prayer in school.”
He added that maybe it’s time to take politics out of sports. “It’s like saying, What’s wrong with prayer in school,” he said. “Well, we’re not there to pray.”
