The times, they are a changing. During the 2018 Emmys, it wasn’t just one prestige streaming service that swept up major awards; it was two. Out of the 26 awards that were handed out during the night, 12 went to Netflix and Amazon. Take that, traditional TV.

Netflix won the most awards of the night, taking home seven honors including the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. HBO was next to follow it with six statues, including ones for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series.

But it was Amazon’s The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel that really stole the night’s spotlight. The Amy Sherman-Palladino comedy took home five awards including the award for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series. These wins made Marvelous Mrs. Maisel the most awarded show based on telecast awards. If you add in the Creative Arts Emmys, the only other shows that beat it are HBO’s Game of Thrones and NBC’s Saturday Night Live.

Here are the the top network and streaming service wins for the Emmys 2018. When it came to night-of Emmys, Netflix came out on top:

  • Netflix: 7 Telecast Emmys
  • HBO: 6 Telecast Emmys
  • Prime Video: 5 Telecast Emmys
  • FX: 5 Telecast Emmys

But when you add in Creative Arts Emmys, HBO and its awards juggernaut Game of Thrones took home the most awards of the year. Also thanks to their Creative Arts Emmy wins, NBC and FX outpaced Amazon:

  • Netflix: 23 Total Emmys
  • HBO: 23 Total Emmys
  • NBC: 16 Total Emmys
  • FX: 12 Total Emmys
  • CNN: 8 Total Emmys
  • Prime Video: 8 Total Emmys

But when it came to the most awarded shows of the night, Amazon’s Marvelous Mrs. Maisel ranked high on that list:

  • Game of Thrones (HBO): 9 Total Emmys
  • Saturday Night Live (NBC): 8 Total Emmys
  • The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Amazon): 8 Total Emmys
  • The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story (FX): 7 Total Emmys
  • Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown (CNN): 5 Total Emmys

At the end of the night, nothing had really changed. HBO still emerged on top, and Game of Thrones is still king. But Netflix and Amazon’s close following may be an interesting foreshadowing of things to come. After all, next year HBO won’t have Game of Thrones. Streaming is coming for the Emmys, and it looks like it’s only a matter of time.
