‘The Witch’ Is On Netflix So You Can Talk To Black Philip Whenever You Want

One of the biggest cult horror hits of the last decade just hit Netflix. You can stream The Witch (or The VVitch: A New England Folktale if you’re feeling fancy) on Netflix. The Witch stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Thomasin, a teenaged girl whose family is kicked out of their Puritan colony in 1630s New England. Her family must make their own way in the untamed wilderness, where they believe they must face down evil itself in the form of the supernatural. After the family’s newborn infant disappears, everyone starts to turn on one another. Adding to the mayhem is the family’s goat…Black Philip.

Atmospheric, strange, and eerie, The Witch divided audiences when it first came out, but has steadily built up a reputation as one of the must-see horror films of the last decade. The film also put young actress Anya Taylor-Joy on the map. Since the film debuted in 2015, Taylor-Joy has gone on to star in Split, Thoroughbreds, and PBS’s The Miniaturist.

The Witch is just the latest A24 title to make the leap from Amazon to Netflix. A24 used to have an exclusive contract with the online retailer that funneled the studio’s beloved indie hits straight to Prime Video. However, as those deals have expired, Netflix has been quietly collecting A24’s library. Room, Laggies, and Ex Machina have already joined Netflix, and now the streaming service has The Witch.

Netflix is getting ready to unleash a bunch of new horror titles just in time for Halloween next month. Yesterday, the streaming service dropped this trailer hyping the spooky fare already in their library, and the haunting titles still to come…
