Hold the Dark

Powered by Reelgood

Congrats, you made it to the weekend! We’ve hit the final days of September, and fall is officially in full swing. Now that the temperatures are dropping, you deserve to curl up under a blanket and check out the best the streaming world has to offer. There are a ton of new movies and TV shows coming to Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, and HBO this weekend, so you’ll have plenty to watch while you avoid raking leaves and dodging invites to the pumpkin patch.
Westworld fans won’t want to miss Jeffrey Wright’s newest project, a Netflix film about an animal tracker tasked with killing the pack of wolves that killed a young boy. Wright is great in the man-versus-nature tale, and his performance is elevated by supporting turns from Riley Keough and Big Little Lies‘ Alexander Skarsgard. Looking for something a little less outdoorsy? Paul Thomas Anderson’s Oscar-nominated Phantom Thread hits HBO on Saturday, and it’s pretty much the exact opposite of Hold the Dark‘s Alaskan wilderness. Set in the world of 1950s London fashion, Phantom Thread tells the story of a designer and his muse, and it’s sure to delight your finer sensibilities.
Maybe you’re ready to get into the Halloween spirit? The 2017 horror hit Jigsaw hits Hulu and Prime Video just a few days before October, and it’s the perfect late-night watch. It’s a good thing you have that blanket, because you may want to cover your eyes during some of the movie’s more gruesome scenes.
Curious what else is hitting your favorite platforms in the next few days? Here’s everything new on streaming this weekend.

Hold the Dark

In Hold the Dark, a young mother (Riley Keough) in northern Alaska reaches out to an animal trapper and wolf expert (Jeffrey Wright) after her son is killed by a pack of wild wolves. The wolf expert is is tasked with killing the wolves before the woman’s husband (Alexander Skarsgard) returns from his military service, but his responsibilities are complicated by a brutal Alaskan wilderness and the wolves’ natural cleverness. Directed by Jeremy Saulnier, Hold the Dark is a man-versus-nature (with a few mystical twists, as well) epic you won’t want to miss.

Phantom Thread

Phantom Thread tells the story of a clothing designer in 1950s London (Daniel Day-Lewis) who becomes smitten with a young waitress (Vicky Krieps). The waitress soon becomes his muse, and after moving in with him, she becomes his assistant and lover, as well. But their honeymoon period is short-lived; it’s not long before they begin fighting, and their passionate affair soon leads to disastrous consequences.

Jigsaw

The most recent installment in the Saw franchise is sure to kick off your Halloween binge-watch right. The 2017 film picks up over a decade after the death of the Jigsaw killer, a deranged madman who forced dozens of victims into deadly “tests.” In Jigsaw, the police stumble upon a string of murders that fit the Jigsaw killer’s M.O., and they launch into panic mode as they begin investigating. Is Jigsaw really back? Is it a copycat killer? Watch Jigsaw this weekend to find out.
