Woman Crush Wednesday: ‘Superstore’ Star Lauren Ash is a Comedic Angel

It’s Wednesday again, my friends, so that can only mean one thing: Woman Crush Wednesday is upon us! This week we’re proudly celebrating one of the funniest women on TV, Lauren Ash.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Lauren Ash

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Originally starting her career in a comedy sketch group in Ontario, Ash has comedy coursing through her veins. She is an alumna of both Second City Toronto Mainstage and Second City Chicago Mainstage and a two-time winner of the Canadian Comedy Award for Best Female Improviser.

Right now, we’re totally in love with her on NBC’s hysterical workplace sitcom Superstore. Ash’s effortlessly hilarious portrayal of Dina will have you laughing until your sides hurt. It’s the role she was born to play! Dina is confident, blunt, and totally unapologetic, while still being one of the show’s most quotable characters.

Last season Ash took her incredible comedy skills to the writers’ room for “Gender Reveal,” the 20th episode of the season. This iconic actor-writer crossover is officially the first to happen in Superstore history (and we’re v proud of her!). In the episode, Glenn and Jerusha are in awe of the ultrasound of their new baby, while Dina becomes anxious about the tiny life inside of her. Dina eventually comes to terms her choice to be Glenn’s surrogate without skipping a beat when it comes to insulting the rest of the staff.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: Doesn’t her face seem familiar? You probably recognize Ash from NBC’s Superstore, but if you aren’t familiar with that one, you can also find her as Mindy in Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2 and as Holly in Lars and The Real Girl. Ash also appears in Comedy Central’s Another Period as Hortense Jefferson Library Bellacourt for the majority of season one. She even makes a cameo as Florist “Erin” in The Disaster Artist.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: Ash is currently working on the upcoming Netflix original She-Ra and The Princesses of Power. The reboot of the 1985 series is set to hit computer screens everywhere on November 16, 2018. And if you’re feeling some major Superstore withdrawal, you’re in luck because season four premieres tomorrow night at 8pm on NBC!
