The Riverdale Season 3 premiere “Labor Day” was bananas. It introduced a new cult called The Farm, a stick and bone monster called The Gargoyle King, and even made a few babies float in the air. But the fun doesn’t end with one episode… This week’s banger, “Chapter Thirty-Seven: Fortune And Men’s Eyes” looks to up the ante considerably with prison riots, more monsters, and maybe even a death or two.

All that, plus teen sleuth investigative duo Bughead (Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart) are back on the case, something fans were sorely missing in Season 2.

So that said, let’s dive into some teases of what to expect from this second episode of the season:

1

Archie Is Making New Friends

Now that Archie (KJ Apa) has been sent to juvenile detention for a murder he didn’t commit, which is a normal thing that happens to high schoolers, he’s going to have to make some alliances. One of those is the ab-errific friend seen in the tweet above, played by Eli Goree. Goree has bounced around The CW quite a bit, including roles on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and The 100. But fans of HBO might know him best for his recurring role as Quincy Carter on Ballers.

Anyway, whether he ultimately helps Archie, or they just rub abs together, we’ll have to stay tuned to see.

Veronica Is The Master Of Disguise

Veronica (Camila Mendes) swore to her boyfriend that she wouldn’t abandon him if he went to jail. And after last week’s cracking caper where she tried to tamper with a jury only to be immediately shut down by her Dad’s cronies, it looks like this time she’s donning a leftover costume from the school’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof” to sneak into juvie. This is after she stages a performance of “Jailhouse Rock” with the River Vixens to entertain Archie and his new pals. When the cheer squad turns the Warden and her Dad sour, they shut her visits down. Enter Pistachio Lodgesquise. Unfortunately in the middle, there’s gonna be a…

Prison Riot

Because Riverdale has never met a storyline it doesn’t like to burn through as quickly as possible, Archie is going to have to deal with a prison riot on week one, one that seems to be caused by V’s cheer. It might also be because Archie tries to make peace in the prison with a friendly game of touch football between the Ghoulies and the Serpents, a bad idea if we ever heard one. And then Veronica is going to be forced to watch her boyfriend get beaten, because yikes. Prediction time: this week is the prison riot; next week is the secret prison fight club; the week after that is the prison breakout episode. Then we never speak of the prison again.

Somebody Is Living In The Tunnels

Last week Jughead (Cole Sprouse) got handed a map of Riverdale drawn on graph paper that led him to a seeming sacrifice to the mysterious Gargoyle King. But it looks like there’s more to it than that, as Jughead and his beau Betty (Lili Reinhart) end up searching the tunnels under the town. And seemingly, they find a room in those tunnels. Certainly looks like the found someone living in that room, too. Could it be… Chic (Hart Denton), Betty’s faux-brother? Or some other character we’ve met before? Or someone new???

Somebody Is Dying In Riverdale

Last episode ended with a cliffhanger showing Dilton Doiley (Major Curda) and his friend Ben prone and spitting green foam in front of a shrine to the Gargoyle King. This upcoming episode it looks like someone is dead on a slab in the morgue. Is it Dilton? Given there are no weird markings carved in the body, like those seen on Dilton and Ben last episode, probably not. So, who then?

Meet Evelyn Evernever

The photo above is from “Chapter Thirty-Eight: As Above, So Below,” but in the trailer you can glimpse this new character talking to Betty. She’s going to be super important to the season going forward. She’s Evelyn Evernever (Zoe De Grande Maison), the daughter of Edgar Evernever, the leader of The Farm — the cult Betty’s Mom and sister have gotten tangled up in. And if the footage is any indication, she’s not a fan of Betty.

The Gargoyle King Attacks

What’s worse than a weird stick and bone monster? One that moves. Betty and Jughead meet the creature in the woods, and frankly, it looks terrifying. This season won’t include anything actually supernatural, but anyone who dresses up in that is messed in the head. Oh, and it seems like it leads right into the ending of the episode, which showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teases is “the most shocking ending we’ve ever done.” Yipes.

Riverdale airs Wednesdays at 8/7c on The CW.
