Ever since American Horror Story announced its crossover season, we’ve been waiting for the return of the Murder House. But nothing prepared us for how crazy and oddly sweet that return would be. Spoilers ahead for American Horror Story: Apocalypse Episodes 1 – 6.

True to its namesake, the Apocalypse season of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuck’s anthology series takes place at the end of the world. Dedicated AHS fans already know who’s responsible for the collapse of civilization — Michael Langdon (Cody Fern), aka the baby that was born from the Rubber Man and Vivien (Connie Britton) in Murder House, aka the antichrist. But through a series of flashbacks, the witches and warlocks of this season have been piecing together the origin story of this hyper-powerful man on their own. That quest naturally caused them to return to the house where AHS began.

Directed by the one and only Sarah Paulson, “Return to Murder House” follows Madison (Emma Roberts) and Behold (Billy Porter) as they quiz ghosts in an attempt to figure out who Langdon really is. But because this is Murder House we’re talking about, their hunt for information stuck them in the middle of swarm of unsettled ghosts, a complicated ode to motherhood, a Satanic cult, and two fractured relationships. Here’s everything you need to know about this spooky blast from the past.

Who is Anton LaVey in American Horror Story?

This name first comes up during a discussion of Langdon’s past, but knowing American Horror Story there’s a good chance it will come up again. After his grandmother and primary caretaker Constance (Jessica Lange) killed herself, Langdon wandered the halls of Murder House. His presence there eventually led to a group of Satanists tracking down their dark Messiah. The leader of that group is Anton LaVey (Carlo Rota).

In the world of AHS, Anton LaVey is best known for being the creepy Black Pope of the Satanists. He murders an innocent woman and feeds Langdon her heart all to catch a glimpse of Satan. But there’s good reason to be wary of this name.

The real Anton LaVey was the founder of the Church of Satan and the religion of LaVeyan Satanism. During his life he became a bit of a celebrity and amassed a dedicated following. LaVey died in 1997, hence American Horror Story’s line about faking his death. In the timeline of this FX series, he never really died.

Who is Constance’s daughter?

After too many seasons without Jessica Lange, we finally saw the brilliant actress return as Constance Langdon. That’s when we learned of the fate of the Murder House’s coldest fan. After Langdon tried to kill her, Constance lost her nerve. She drank herself to death in Murder House so that she could be with her children again. In a flashback, Constance awakes in the afterlife to see herself surrounded by her children — Tate (Evan Peters), Beau (Sam Kinsey), and a young girl.

That young girl is Rose Langdon. It’s unclear when Constance had her and when she died. However she’s memorable for her missing eyes.

How many children does Constance Langdon have?

She has four — Addie, Tate, Beau, and Rose. In her afterlife she can only be with three of them. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on how much of a hellscape the Murder House is) Constance was unable to move her other daughter Addie (Jamie Brewer) to the Murder House before her death. She’s the only one of Constance’s children not trapped in this place for all eternity.
