The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell is a bizarre wonderland of gothic style, creepy Muppets, beautiful creations, and silly humor. However, the strangest part of The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell might be the curious case of her love interest, Norman (played by Adam Mayfield).

There are a lot of mouth-watering treats in The Curious Creations of Christine McConnell, but there is no hotter dish than Norman. Dreamier than Christine’s fantastical haunted gingerbread mansions and sweeter than her wolf claw donuts, Norman is a bonafide hunk. He’s got a killer sense of style — plaid! knits! glasses! axes! — and dimples that could melt an ice berg. I can’t help it. I love him.

However, it seems that Norman is also a serial killer. As Edgar keeps noting, he smells like fresh blood, and he’s constantly playing with knives. And yes, I suppose he does kill Christine’s odious cousin Evelyn and stuff her into a mass grave, but you know, Evelyn had it coming. She tried to murder Rankle, Rose, Edgar, and Christine — and she went after Norman with an axe. In many ways, killing Evelyn was an act of self-defense. Indeed, Norman was protecting Christine’s wacky tribe of weirdo creatures.

So Norman is a serial killer, is that really so bad? Christine mentions in Episode 5 that the “madman” who is on the loose is only targeting “sex offenders.” Could we not see Norman as a sort of vigilante, then, protecting his whimsical community from the icky, awful people who don’t understand the meaning of consent? Could you not say that Norman is not evil, but actually a hero? I have seen Daredevil. Sometimes a man’s gotta operate outside the boundaries of the law to bring justice to his city. Maybe Norman is that man.

Okay, okay, Norman is totally a serial killer and that is bad. I get that. However, he’s also kind, attentive, charming, and supportive. He is on paper everything I would look for in a potential partner. He happily eats Christine’s decadent treats and puts up with her weird friends. He is — on paper — a good boyfriend! Are his extracurricular activities really that big of a deal breaker? I say nay! (At least, so long as he continues to only kill baddies.)
