WWE Evolution: Ronda Rousey Overcomes “Twin Magic” To Demolish Nikki Bella

The unmistakable theme from last night’s Evolution was the merging of the past, present, and future superstars of World Wrestling Entertainment. Live from the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, the WWE’s inaugural all-women’s pay-per-view was a historic celebration of the company’s on and off screen push to highlight women’s wrestling. From Attitude Era stalwarts Trish Stratus and Lita to future main eventers Shayna Baszler and Kairi Sane, Evolution was one of the most entertaining pay-per-views of the year, highlighted by a grueling Last Woman Standing match between Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair and epic bout between Toni Storm and Io Shirai to determine the winner of this year’s Mae Young Classic. But the headliner of this historic event was the buzzy main event matchup between WWE Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey and former WWE Diva’s Champion Nikki Bella.

In a battle of vastly different eras, it was the former UFC champ who came out on top, eventually making Nikki Bella tap out to her seemingly inescapable arm bar submission. But the match wasn’t without its drama as the veteran Bella once again used her sister Brie to employ a bit of “twin magic.” “Brie Mode” made her presence felt throughout the match as the Bella Twins took advantage of one of WWE’s favorite tropes, the dastardly numbers game, to outmaneuver the more physically imposing Rousey. But all the hocus pocus in the world couldn’t save the Bella Twins on this night. After using her strength to slam both Bella sisters simultaneously, the “Rowdy” one performed an impressive small package bomb off the top rope before finally making Nikki Bella tap out to her dreaded arm bar.

Evolution concluded with Rousey and the rest of the women’s division celebrating on the top of the entrance ramp, but during a post-match interview, Nikki Bella promised that her issues with Ronda are far from over.

“I just feel like the Divas Era is officially over,” the Total Divs star said. “But you know what? With Ronda, it’s not over. When I come back here, I’m going to be a brand new woman that every women in this women’s division will need to fear.”
