Meghan McCain Blasts ‘SNL’ For “Offensive” Skit Mocking Dan Crenshaw’s War Injury

Last night on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, cast member Pete Davidson performed a skit aimed at giving his “first impressions” of a few prominent GOP Congressional candidates, including Dan Crenshaw.

In response to his commentary, Meghan McCainThe View co-host and daughter of the late Sen. John McCain has taken to Twitter this morning to bash the “tone-def” skit, claiming that it was “offensive to veterans.”

The political jab aired during the show’s usual Weekend Update segment and was meant as a prelude to Tuesday’s midterm elections.

Davidson noted that there are “some gross people” running and dissed candidates such as Gov. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Rep. Peter King (R-N.Y.), among others.

Crenshaw, a retired lieutenant commander who served for 10 years as a Navy SEAL in Afghanistan prior to pursuing a career in politics, had sustained a war injury (as the direct result of an IED blast) in which he had lost his right eye. He now sports an eye patch.

“You may be surprised to hear he’s a Congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie,” joked Davidson on Saturday. “I’m sorry, I know he lost his eye in war, or whatever.”

You can check out the clip as well as McCain’s response below.

McCain, whose father spent 5 years in captivity as a Vietnam prisoner of war (POW), felt compelled to call out the late night television show for its insensitive remarks.

“This is really awful and incredibly tone-deaf and offensive to veterans, their families and all who serve,” she insisted. “Come on SNL, do better.”
