Outlaw King

TGIF, y’all. It’s been one hell of a week (the midterm elections already feel like decades ago), and now, it’s time to turn your brain off with some good, old fashioned entertainment. This weekend, Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video, and HBO are dishing up hit after hit, so buckle up: it’s streamin’ time.

This chilly November weekend is all about movies. Today, Netflix released David Mackenzie’s highly-anticipated epic Outlaw King, starring Chris Pine as the Scottish hero Robert the Bruce. Even if you’re not into medieval history, Outlaw King is worth a watch: it has sweeping visuals, a budget that will knock your socks off, and a cameo from Pine’s penis. If full-frontal Chris Pine can’t convince you to watch this movie, I don’t know what will. Feeling something a little lighter? Head over to HBO for a double feature of Love, Simon and Paddington 2. These two flicks are about as heartwarming as they come, so if you’re feeling jaded about the state of our socio-political climate, they’ll be an ideal pick-me-up.

Outlaw King

Get your historical fix with Outlaw King, David Mackenzie’s sweeping epic about Robert the Bruce (Chris Pine), aka the King of Scots. When Robert the Bruce is declared an outlaw by the King of England, the Scotsman recruits a ragtag army and declares war on his colonial overlords. The men don’t have much in the way of ammunition or manpower, but they have passion, and they never let up in their fight to free the country from the rule of King Edward I and his son, the Prince of Wales.

Love, Simon

Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) is a normal high school kid with a huge secret: he’s gay. As Simon figures out how to come out to his loving family and close friends, he begins communicating with an anonymous gay student named Blue, and the two quickly form a strong bond. But Simon’s newfound peace is quickly destroyed when a classmate threatens to tell the entire school about his secret, leaving the conflicted teenager with a huge choice to make. Love, Simon, directed by Greg Berlanti and co-starring Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Garner, and Katherine Langford, will make you feel pretty much every emotion possible, so be sure you’re mentally prepared before you settle in with this rom-com.

Paddington 2

Paddington 2, the sequel to the 2014 film Paddington, captivated the world’s attention when it hit theaters in late 2017 (or early 2018, when it debuted in the U.S.). The film continues the story of Paddington the Bear, a polite, kindly bear who loves marmalade, but this time, things get serious when he’s wrongfully arrested for stealing a book. As friends on the outside fight for Paddington’s innocence, he befriends the other prisoners and turns the jail into a bastion of positivity. Will Paddington get justice? Will he discover the true book thief? Watch Paddington 2 to find out.
