Who Plays Mrs. Claus in ‘The Christmas Chronicles’?

The Christmas Chronicles on Netflix is a holiday adventure unlike any you’ve seen before. For one thing, it stars Kurt Russell as jolly old St. Nick. That pretty much guarantees that it’s gonna be a bit more raucous than usual, right?

If you’ve already made it through a screening of this new holiday classic, then you are no doubt feeling a lot of feelings! Maybe you’re filled with the holiday spirit, maybe you have the urge to seek validation by staring into some Christmas ornaments, or maybe you’re just eager to watch it again. Or maybe, if you’re anything like me, you are freaking out by that absolutely outstanding cameo at the very end of the film (!!). Or maybe you’re half my age and scratching your head wondering who that was and why everyone a generation ahead of you is doing Christmas cartwheels in the living room (Christmas cartwheels are cartwheels in pointy elf shoes).

So yeah, let’s talk about it. But first, make sure you are cool with spoilers if you haven’t seen The Christmas Chronicles yet, because this is literally the one major surprise in the whole movie. You ready?

Who plays Mrs. Claus in The Christmas Chronicles?

As the movie takes place on Christmas Eve during Santa’s midnight run, our jolly hero only alludes to his wife back home at the North Pole. He specifically doesn’t want her to find out that he stole a car and got involved in a high-speed car chose with the Chicago PD. We don’t even see Mrs. Claus when Kate (Darby Camp) falls through a portal and into his sci-fi Scandinavian home office. It’s not until the very last scene in the final minutes of the movie that we meet Mrs. Claus. She returns home, resplendent in a fur-lined seasonal coat, carrying some firewood. Turns out she’s heard all about her hubby’s escapade on Earth–and then she turns around.

It’s Goldie Hawn.

Goldie freaking Hawn!

Goldie Hawn plays Mrs. Claus!

Goldie Hawn is a pop culture icon. She rose to fame as the face of the hippy flower power movement on the sketch show Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In in the late ’60s and effortlessly transitioned into straight-up movie superstardom in the ’70s. She won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Cactus Flower in 1969, and was nominated again for the absolutely essential 1980 comedy Private Benjamin. Her other notable feature films include Shampoo, Death Becomes Her, The First Wives Club, and she starred alongside Amy Schumer in last year’s Snatched.

Oh yeah–and Goldie Hawn is Kurt Russell’s IRL partner! They’ve been together since 1983! And The Christmas Chronicles is just the latest movie they’ve appeared in together; they most notably co-starred in 1984’s Swing Shift and 1987’s Overboard.

After Santa cops to having been both naughty and nice on Christmas Eve, Mrs. Claus gives him a nice peck and suggests they watch a movie together (it sounds like she’s super into watching The Grinch). Here’s my plea and hear my plea, Netflix: I need The Christmas Chronicles 2 with Russell and Hawn! Please, it’s all I want for Christmas next year!
