‘Baskets’ Season 3 Is Now on Hulu

The holidays are a breeding ground for awkward small talk and scattered dreams. And lucky for you the show that understands familial cringe comedy the best is making an appearance this November. Baskets Season 3 is now on Hulu in all of its glorious failure.

Created by and starring Zach Galifianakis, Baskets may be one of the sweetest and most sincere shows about abject failure to ever grace television. In its first episodes, the series largely followed Chip Baskets (Galifianakis), a naive man-child who has to abandon his dream of becoming a French clown to return home. In its own often odd and ever delicate way the series pulls apart the anxieties and fears of Chip, slowly showing him that though he’ll be never a successful clown in the way that he wants that’s OK.

But in the show’s third season, Baskets broadened its scope of disappointment. The big emotional moments of this latest season went to the series’ best supporting characters, Louie Anderson’s Christine and Martha Kelly’s Martha. As Christine struggles to realize her dreams of creating a rodeo, she has to also balance her own sweet love life. Likewise the sexy side of the cast-ridden Martha gets to shine as well as she walks the line between two different lovers. Both characters are so endearingly awkward and weird it’s hard not to laugh at them as you root for them.

And that’s the charm of Baskets. Despite how bizarre this take on Bakersfield gets and despite how dumb their many fights are, watching these characters pursue their best lives is always a quietly endearing experience. But when they fail, it’s cringe comedy at its finest.
