It sure took long enough, but Fuller House Season 4 is finally on Netflix. After a full year of eager anticipation, all us Fannerinos have a whole new season hijinks and “Have mercy”s to binge ASAP. If you’re like me, you watched all 13 new episodes within the first 24 hours of its arrival on Netflix. Time really flies when you’re hanging out with the Fuller/Tanner/Gibbler family!

Now that a whole year’s worth of waiting has paid off in one fast binge session, you’ve only got one question on your mind: Are they making a Season 5 of Fuller House? Oh yeah, I guess two questions: When will Season 5 of Fuller House hit Netflix? But before I dig into those answers, I gotta run through where we left things at the end of Season 4!

Does Fuller House Season 4 end on a cliffhanger?

To get all nit-picky about it, It depends on what you consider a cliffhanger. Spoiler alert: The season finale, “Opening Night,” ends with Kimmy (Andrea Barber) giving birth to the baby she was carrying for her brother Jimmy (Adam Hagenbuch) and friend Stephanie (Jodie Sweetin). While Stephanie and Jimmy didn’t have a name ready for their newborn daughter, Jimmy did make a move that might end up changing Stephanie’s name: he proposed! Yep, Jimmy Gibbler got down on one knee and proposed to Stephanie–with a ring and everything! He did an adult thing! Stephanie said yes, BTW, potentially agreeing to become Stephanie Gibbler.

As far as the other plotlines, everything else was pretty much resolved. DJ (Candace Cameron Bure) is happily with Steve (Scott Weinger) and she’s made amends with her ex Matt (John Brotherton). Even DJ’s oldest kid Jackson (Michael Campion) got back together with his rough-edged sweetheart Rocki (Landry Bender).

There’s still plenty of ground for Fuller House to cover in a potential Season 5. Like, come on–we gotta see Stephanie’s wedding! We didn’t get to see DJ’s and Michelle will never be seen on this show ever again! Give us a Tanner family wedding, please! But other than that, everything else is tied up pretty neatly. If this is the end of Fuller House, it wouldn’t be that big of a surprise. So…

Are they making a Season 5 of Fuller House?

As is always the case, Netflix has not announced whether or not Fuller House is coming back for a fifth season. Don’t panic yet, though, because that is always how this goes down. If Netflix is going to make another season, they could take as long as a month to make up their minds; Season 4 wasn’t even ordered by Netflix until January 29 of 2018. But things have changed a lot for Netflix since even January of 2018, and it could spell trouble for Fuller House’s future.

Just a few months ago, there was a totally vague rumor circulating that Season 4 would be the end of Fuller House. That seemed ridiculous at the time (and still kinda does) since Fuller House has consistently been the biggest original comedy on Netflix. Why would Netflix cancel their most popular comedy? It seemed like a crazy notion… and then Netflix canceled Daredevil.

Okay, it may seem nuts to link the fate of a Marvel superhero show to Fuller House, but I have a reason! What do Fuller House and Daredevil have in common? Both of them are shows produced by outside companies but distributed by Netflix. Netflix doesn’t totally own Fuller House; that’s why that Warner Horizon Television logo always pops up after the Netflix one at the start of every episode. That doesn’t happen on other Netflix shows! Netflix canceling Daredevil, which was just as–if not more–popular than Fuller House, could indicate that Netflix is finally ready to cut all ties with shows produced elsewhere and focus exclusively on shows they completely own, even if those outside shows are super popular. If that’s the case, then Fuller House could be done.

But I reiterate, we don’t yet know if that’s the case! There are a whole lot of other factors involved in the Netflix/Marvel drama. Who knows what Netflix’s relationship is with Warner Bros., Fuller House’s parent company? Netflix and WB did just renegotiate to keep Friends around for at least another year. But then again, Warner Bros. is launching their own streaming service at some point in the future…

When will Fuller House Season 5 come out?

If Netflix decides to give Fuller House another season, it’s entirely likely that it’ll follow the same release pattern as the last couple have. That means if Season 5 gets the go-ahead, it could come out in December 2019. This piece will be updated once Netflix makes a decision about Fuller House’s future.

UPDATE: Netflix has announced that Fuller House is coming back for a fifth and final season, expected to arrive in fall 2019.
