New Movies on Demand: ‘Bad Times at the El Royale,’ ‘Venom,’ ‘House with a Clock in Its Walls,’ and More

It’s the Friday before Christmas
And all through the house
Not a body was stirring
While you sat on the couch.

The laptop was open
On the table with care
in the hopes that new movies
Soon would be there.

Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover. And if you want to get a head start on planning your December viewings, you can check out our exclusive list of FandangoNow’s upcoming releases!

If you want to add a dash of blockbuster spice to your season’s streamings, you’ll be happy to know that you can now rent The House with a Clock in Its Walls and Venom from the comfort of your own home at a fraction of the cost. You can even spike your eggnog with a bit of Shane Black’s The Predator reboot, which is also available to rent just in time for the darkest nights of the year.

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of big brawlers, retro dramedies, and terrifying documentaries now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Bad Times at the El Royale

They just don’t make’em like this anymore–except when writer/director Drew Goddard (Cabin in the Woods) just up and does it himself. This wild neo-noir ride is packed with an all-star cast (Jeff Bridges, Jon Hamm, Chris Hemsworth, Nick Offerman, Dakota Johnson!) that’s ready to get wild with this retro thriller. If you want something truly unexpected this season, make it an El Royale night. A good time is guaranteed to be had (that is if stylish thrillers are your jam).

mid90s

Who doesn’t love a good coming-of-age period piece dramedy? If you watched Lady Bird and thought, “Hey, what if Jonah Hill directed this and it was about a 13-year-old that hangs with the skater crowd,” then you conjured mid90s into existence! For real though, this one’s getting solid buzz–especially considering it marks Jonah Hill’s feature film directorial debut. If you’re already done with Christmas cheer, this one’s a good movie to queue up next.

Deck the Halls

Listen: Deck the Halls is a very bad movie. If you want to see Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito at the low point of their respective careers, it’s hard to find a better example than this rowdy and ridiculous holiday feud movie. But. It is Christmas and you’ve already watched all the classics by now, right? So it’s my duty to let you know that you can 1. stream Deck the Halls on Hulu for free (if you have an account) or 2. rent it for under a buck in iTunes. So, is Deck the Halls bad? Yes. Is it worth watching if you want some mindless Christmas fun for either $0 or $1? Maybe. Your call!
