New Movies on Demand: ‘Halloween,’ ‘Goosebumps 2,’ ‘Night School,’ and More

It’s the week between Christmas and New Year’s, a week that’s traditionally the quietest stretch of time all year. A lot of people are off work and all of TV’s in reruns. You’re probably even reading this from a couch that is not your own, recuperating from all the holidays as the year closes out. Still, any couch is a good couch to watch movies from! Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover. And if you want to get a head start on planning your December viewings, you can check out our exclusive list of FandangoNow’s upcoming releases!

It’s kind of a slow week for new releases, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to watch while you fiddle around with your new gizmos and stuff yourself full of stocking candy. For instance, you can finally rent the Kevin Hart/Tiffany Haddish comedy Night School! And if you want to have a Haddish double feature, you can pair Night School with the political dark comedy The Oath, co-starring Ike Bariholtz. Also available to rent is the crime drama White Boy Rick, starring Matthew McConaughey.

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of R-rated horrors, kid-friendly horrors, and raucous comedies now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Halloween

Who woulda thought that comedian Danny McBride woulda turned out a pulse-pounding sequel to the original Halloween? Well, he did with 2018’s Halloween, a movie that picks up where the original left off (sorry, Halloweens from 1981 to 2009) and features the return of original scream queen Jamie Lee Curtis. The film was a monster success, winning over critics and becoming the highest-grossing slasher film in history. Now you can see what all the fuss was about–if you want to pay full price. You can rent Halloween on January 15.

Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween

The sequel to 2015’s hit Goosebumps film, the sequel once again features Jack Black as horror writer R.L. Stine in a movie that brings all the frightful events of the children’s horror anthology series to life. This time around, a group of kids unleash a host of horrors on their town on Halloween night when they open up an unpublished Goosebumps manuscript. If you’re looking for something creepy to watch with the family that isn’t an R-rated slash-a-thon, this is your best bet. You’ll be able to rent this one on January 15.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot

Based on a true story, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot stars Tina Fey as a journalist who disrupts her humdrum life to become a reporter on the frontlines of the war in Afghanistan. The dramedy was written by Fey’s 30 Rock co-creator Robert Carlock, but it relies more heavily on the “drama” side of dramedy. It also stars a pre-Suicide Squad Margot Robbie and, y’know, Martin Freeman as a hot Scottish photographer with a knack for wearing cozy cable knit sweaters and super super short shorts… if you’re into that sorta thing. You can rent Martin Freeman’s leg show for just under a buck in iTunes!
