The 17 Best Shows Ending in 2019

2019 may be bringing a lot of exciting TV premieres, but it’s also bringing too many heart-breaking finales.

Below are some of the biggest and most surprising series conclusions that are happening this year, from HBO losing its dramatic ace-in-the-hole in the same year as its comedic darling (Game of Thrones and Veep), to Netflix launching the final season of one of its first originals (Orange Is the New Black).

There are plenty of series conclusions that will make you sob into your remote; but as sad as these departures may be, let’s not focus on the bad! Look at this list as an opportunity to finally appreciate the televised gems you’ve been meaning to watch, but may have ignored for so many years. It’s a new year for television, and you deserve to fall in love with the best the medium has to offer, before these shows go away for good.

Veep

HBO isn’t just losing its heavy-hitting drama this year, it’s also losing the worst (and only) woman formerly in the White House with the final season of Veep. All we know about Season 7 is that it’s scheduled to premiere sometime in spring and will be seven episodes long.

Say goodbye to the ladies of Litchfield. After years of watching these inmates backstab and joke around, OITNB will be coming to an end this year with its seventh season. It will likely premiere in the summer.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt

Her story may end but she’s still unbreakable, dammit. The last season of this ever-optimistic comedy was split into two parts. Season 4’s first part premiered in May of 2018. On January 25, 2019, Netflix will air the final episodes of this Tina Fey creation.

Transparent

Amazon’s award-winning and groundbreaking dramedy will be saying goodbye. It’s unknown when Transparent Season 5 will be premiering, but since it’s been over a year since Season 4, hopefully we’ll get to say goodbye to the Pfeffermans sooner rather than later — even if Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) won’t be along for the ride.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend

So long, farewell, to you and you and you! That’s what we’ll be singing later this year, because this show is a musical! Season 4 is 18 episodes long, and returned from its mid-season break on January 11. So far half those episodes have aired, so it should end sometime this spring.

Fox’s ode to the best villains (and hero) in superhero lore may be concluding, but that doesn’t mean that the Penguin, Catwoman, or the much-teased Joker are through with Batman yet. The series’ fifth and final season premiered on January 3, and will be 12 episodes long.
