Laurie Metcalf Says ‘The Conners’ Season 2 Is “Going to Happen”

Will ABC’s The Conners be back next season? One of its stars thinks so.

Laurie Metcalf told Entertainment Tonight that a sophomore run for the Roseanne spinoff is in play. “I believe it’s going to happen,” she told ET‘s Lauren Zima before Sunday’s Critics’ Choice Awards. “I think we’ll do between 10 and 13 [episodes], something like that. … I think the tone will be the same, but I love not knowing what’s coming up at all.” Watch video of the interview here.

Deadline’s Nellie Andreeva reported last month that ABC would like a second installment that continuing the Conner family story without its matriarch, who was played by Roseanne Barr until the revival was canceled in March hours after she posted racist tweets. Negotiations are underway with the core cast for a 13-episode Season 2, which would be up from the 11 episodes in its current rookie season and the nine for the lone season of the Roseanne revival.

Metcalf, who plays Jackie Harris on The Conners, was at the CCAs in Santa Monica as a nominee for Supporting Actress in a Comedy for the show. In the ET interview, she praised the show’s scribes. “I just think the writers did a wonderful job of keeping the tone and telling stories about the characters people have grown up with,” she said.
