‘Carmen Sandiego’ Cast: Who Is in the Netflix Reboot?

We finally know where in the world Carmen Sandiego is — on streaming! Starring Gina Rodriguez, Netflix’s reboot of Carmen Sandiego is an animated adaptation of the beloved spy adventure game, and this version has a cast worth watching.

Based on the educational series of the same name, Carmen Sandiego explores a different side of everyone’s favorite red-cloaked mastermind. Set up as a show about a video game, the series switches between high-level heist missions executed by Carmen Sandiego and her trusted right-hand man, the Player. Between these daring quests the show also dives into her mysterious backstory and exactly how a trained thief came to work for the good guys. It’s a cute and action-packed series that has just enough nostalgia to work.

But the other element working heavily in Carmen Sandiego‘s favor is its impressive cast. Gina Rodriguez voices the beloved super sleuth, and Finn Wolfhard stars as the ever-enthusiastic Player. Rodriguez is best known for her phenomenal work on the CW’s Jane the Virgin, which has earned the actress three Golden Globe nominations. She also starred in last year’s sci-fi horror film Annihilation.

Her co-star is already a familiar voice to Netflix fans. Wolfhard is best known for playing Mike Wheeler in another nostalgia-tinged show, Stranger Things, and starred as the bespectacled Richie Tozier in 2017’s adaptation of It.

However, it’s not just all new voices for Carmen Sandiego. The one any only Rita Moreno makes a vocal appearance in the Netflix adaptation as another, older career criminal by the name of Cookie Booker. Moreno originally voiced Sandiego in Fox’s 1990s series Where on Earth Is Carmen Sandiego? Her return to the series is a sweet shoutout.

True to its status as a sort of video game adaptation, the series features several voice actors from both worlds. On the television side Kimiko Glenn (Orange Is the New Black) plays as Paperstar; Toks Olagundoye (Castle, The Neighbors) voices Countess Cleo; Dawnn Lewis (A Different World, Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper) plays Chief; and voice acting superstar Kari Wahlgren (FLCL, Rick and Morty) voices Sheena and several other characters. As for voice actors with impressive video game credentials, Charlet Chung (Overwatch) and Troy Baker (The Last of Us, BioShock: Infinite) make appearances in the adaptation. They voice Julia Argent and Dash Haber respectively.
