‘Sex Education’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix

After a hugely successful first season, Netflix has renewed British dramedy Sex Education for a second season. The streaming giant has ordered eight new episodes of the high school-set series, which follows a teenage boy named Otis (Asa Butterfield) who starts a sex therapy clinic for his fellow students. The entire cast is set to return for Season 2, including Butterfield, Gillian Anderson (Otis’ mother Jean, a licensed sex therapist), scene stealer Emma Mackey, and Ncuti Gatwa.
According to Netflix, Sex Education is on track to be watched by over 40 million households in its first week on the service. Immediately after the series debuted, on January 11, fans began asking for a second season — including fans at this site — and after weeks of pleading, Netflix granted them (us) their (our) wish. Sex Education Season 2 is expected to begin production this spring and will likely debut in the first half of 2020.

“The reception to series one has been so exciting,” said creator Laurie Nunn. “Seeing how people across the world have connected to characters that began as ideas in my head is incredible. I’m hugely grateful to every person that has taken the time to watch the series, and I can’t wait to continue this amazing journey.”

“Laurie Nunn has captured the awkward teenage experience with a lot of heart and humor in Sex Education,” said Netflix’s VP of Original Content Cindy Holland. “Along with the Eleven team and executive producer and director Ben Taylor, she’s created a universally relatable series that has resonated with our members around the world.”
Plot details for Sex Education Season 2 are being kept under wraps, but Season 1 left plenty of potential threads for new episodes to pick up on. How will Maeve handle Otis and Ola’s new relationship? Will Otis be able to have sex now that he’s successfully masturbated? Will Eric and Adam continue to talk while Adam is at military school? We have dozens of questions that only Sex Education Season 2 can answer, but at least we know one thing: it’s my vagina.
