‘The Young and the Restless’ Star Kristoff St. John Found Dead at 52

Kristoff St. John, longtime star of The Young and the Restless, has died at the age of 52. According to TMZ, St. John was found dead Sunday in his home in San Fernando Valley, California. There were no signs of foul play, but a source says that alcohol may have played a role in his death. The actor is best known for playing Neil Winters on the long-running CBS daytime soap opera, as well as his smaller roles in General HospitalArliss, and Generations.

St. John has played The Young and the Restless‘ Neil Winters since 1991, and he’s credited in appearing in over 1,600 episodes. During his lengthy career on the soap, he was nominated for 9 Daytime Emmys, taking home awards for Outstanding Younger Actor in a Drama Series in 1992 and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2008. St. John has also won 10 NAACP Image Awards and has been nominated for countless more, all of them for Outstanding Actor in a Daytime Drama Series.

According to TMZ, the star has had a troubled past few years. In 2014, his son Julian committed suicide while being treated at a mental health facility. Three years later, around the anniversary of Julian’s death, St. John reportedly threatened to kill himself with a gun, and he was placed under a 72-hour psychiatric hold.

St. John’s attorney Mark Geragos confirmed his death on Twitter, saying, “Few men had the unique strength, courage & sensitivity that Kristoff St. John lived every single minute of every day. He impacted everyone he met and millions who he inspired and in turn admired him.” Geragos added that Mia St. John, the actor’s ex-wife, and the St. John family thank the fans for all of the “love” and kind words.

The Daytime Emmys also tweeted about St. John’s passing. “It is with unbelievable sadness that we say goodbye to our friend,” the account wrote.
