Go on, try to name a more bingeable show than Netflix’s Russian Doll. Natasha Lyonne’s universally acclaimed time loop dramedy is unlike any show we’ve seen before–and we’ve seen a lot of time loop stories before. For one thing, the show’s crazy addictive. If you watched the first three episode, odds are you immediately watched the last five. But because it’s so engrossing and such a quick watch, you’re no doubt left clamoring to spend more time with Lyonne’s beautifully brash trainwreck Nadia. The big question is, will you ever see her again? Or will you forever be stuck in your own time loop, rewatching Season 1 over and over and over again?

Before we can get to where Russian Doll may go, let’s quickly run through the show’s Season 1 finale.

Does Russian Doll Season 1 end on a cliffhanger?

SPOILER ALERT: it doesn’t. For a deeper analysis of what that finale means, you can check out our own ending explainer post. The gist goes like this: after rebooting into two separate loops, Nadia and her fellow traveler Alan (played by Charlie Barnett) set out to save each others’ life. Just one catch: they’re no longer in the same loop. They’re each back in the original iteration, interacting with the totally tipsy/drunk versions of each other. Instead of unknowingly crossing paths and not saving each other, it’s now time for Nadia to save the suicidal Alan, and for Alan to save the reckless Nadia.

They succeed! Nadia saves Alan from jumping off a roof to his death, and Alan pulls Nadia out of the path of a speeding car. With their lessons learned and lives saved, Nadia and Alan’s separate loops converge back into one. They survived that never-ending night, and their lives continue forth having found a new friend. Or, I dunno, maybe they were dead all along. Who knows? It’s all up to interpretation. Either way, our two heroes are out of the loop and moving on.

That’s about as tidy of an ending as you could hope for on Russian Doll. There are still a lot of things left unexplained, like what caused the loop in the first place or why those convenience store bros kept popping up as different people throughout every iteration, or even why all the fruit started to go bad and people started to disappear. Do you need answers to those questions? Absolutely not. Are they enough to justify a whole second season? Maybe not…?

Will there be a Russian Doll Season 2?

*** UPDATE: Yep! Russian Doll has been renewed for Season 2!***

It’s too soon to tell, as Netflix can sometimes take a while to officially renew a show. We do know, however, that the showrunners pitched Netflix on a 3-season idea. Here’s what co-creator Leslye Headland told The Hollywood Reporter:

“We pitched Netflix three seasons of the most bonkers, heartfelt, passionate, this-is-what-we-truly-feel-like-is-our-story-to-tell idea, and they said: ‘Great, the more of that, the better. The more you guys this can be, the better. Here are the resources and the support — take off.'”

It’s a total mystery what those other two seasons could be. Would they star Nadia and Alan going through further loops together? Or would Nadia find a new companion, or maybe fly solo? Could the show expand into alternate realities, maybe time travel or other out there narrative ideas? Or would the show just shift focus entirely and star someone completely different in a time loop setting? All of those could be possibilities, or it’s equally likely that Headland, Lyonne, and co-creator Amy Poehler decided while making the show that it’s a one-season story. Really no one knows besides the people involved, and all this is wild speculation. So while there is no official word on Russian Doll Season 2, and while it may seem like the show is totally wrapped, there’s always a chance it could come back for another season or two.

Decider will be sure to update this article as soon as Netflix releases more information about the future of Russian Doll.
