‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s Year-Round Halloween Store Is Real and It’s Spooktacular

Yep. You read that right, my friend. There is an actual store that specializes in all of your spooky desires 365 days of the year.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt has never failed to use the nitty gritty New York City as the backdrop to their hyperrealistic world and the last episodes of Season 4 are no different. In the newly released batch of episodes (episode 10, to be exact), Busy Philipps’ character Sheba Goodman returns with yet another ill-conceived company idea. Or so we thought. Sheba’s “Halloween 360” is a store focused on selling Halloween decorations and costumes all year round. While Lillian might not have thought it was the brightest idea, Sheba Goodman and manager Tony Bianchi of Manhattan’s own Halloween Adventure beg to differ.

Halloween Adventure has been in the spooky business since 1981 with permanent locations appearing New York City and Philadelphia (with several pop-ups) and that doesn’t seem to be stopping anytime soon. Their specialty store, New York Costumes, is located right in the East Village at 104 4th Ave, with an entrance also at 808 Broadway, this Halloween superstore is an experience all in itself. NYC’s permanent location features two floors jam-packed with every single costume, prop, or mask you could ever imagine.

Halloween Adventure employee Andy Thompson, who was present at the time Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt filmed, raved about his truly “awesome experience.” He said it was totally unforgettable to be on a real-life TV set, supplied with props, camera equipment, and tasty snacks. By coincidence, Thompson had just binge-watched the show on Netflix the week prior and admitted to being “a little bit starstruck” meeting Carol Kane and Ellie Kemper during filming.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt isn’t the first to use the store as it’s backdrop. Bianchi recalled the store has appeared in shows and movies like Six Degrees, The Apprentice, and The Dummy. In an episode of New York City’s favorite sitcom Friends, Joey even pays a visit to the store while in search for a Christmas costume.

So for future reference: If you’re ever on the hunt for a snazzy costume way before Halloween, Tony Bianchi and the excellent staff at Halloween Adventure have got you covered. Or even if you just wanna see one of the real-life places where Sheba Goodman and Lillian brawled, take a trip inside.
