WWE’s Iron Sheik Threatens to “Suplex” Chris Hemsworth After Hulk Hogan Casting

Thor is ready to talk on the WWE. On Wednesday, The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Chris Hemsworth will be playing iconic wrestler, actor, and TV personality Hulk Hogan in an upcoming Netflix biopic from Todd Phillips. For obvious reasons, the news confused many social media users, but no one was more upset than WWE legend The Iron Sheik. Hogan’s former wrestling foe reacted to the casting news on Twitter, where he called Hemsworth a “jabroni” and told the actor that he will “suplex” him the next time they see each other.

THR reports that the still-untitled Netflix biopic will follow Hogan as he rises in the ranks of the wrestling world. Described as “an origin story of the Hulkster and Hulkamania,” the film traces Hogan throughout the early 1970s and 1980s, when he started his World Wrestling Federation (the WWE’s original name) career. In his early days, Hogan fought wrestling titans including Andre the Giant and The Iron Sheik, who he defeated in 1984 to earn his first Heavyweight Championship.

It’s been over thirty years since their marquee matchup, but The Iron Sheik still has some strong feelings towards Hogan — and he’s directing them at Hemsworth. After the casting news broke, the Hall of Fame wrestler went after Hemsworth on Twitter. “Chris Hemsworth you jabroni I swear to Jesus I suplex you when I see you,” wrote Iron Sheik in his usual all-caps format. “Remember who make the Hulkamania and is the real legend of the earth.”

Fans online seemed to agree with The Iron Sheik’s analysis of the news, although they didn’t threaten to suplex Hemsworth. That’s something, I guess.

In recent years, Hogan has been involved in a variety of scandals — including a lawsuit that led to the collapse of Gawker — but THR notes that Netflix’s film will generally avoid his 21st century escapades. Instead, the biopic will focus on Hogan’s wrestling career and his early years as a WWF champion. But that being said, the streaming giant isn’t totally getting out of the Hogan vs. Gawker game:  a documentary account of the feud, Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press, was released as a Netflix Original in 2017. Considering that Netflix’s biopic is reportedly still in the early stages of development, no one will judge you for watching Nobody Speak on repeat for the next few years.
