Netflix’s ‘Spinning Out’ Adds Svetlana Efremova, Charlie Hewson

Svetlana Efremova (The Americans) is set as a regular and Charlie Hewson (Upload) will recur in Spinning Out, Netflix’s upcoming drama series set in the world of competitive figure skating.

Created by Samantha Stratton (Mr. Mercedes), a former competitive figure skater herself, Spinning Out centers on Kat Baker (Kaya Scodelario), an up-and-coming, high-level single skater who’s about to turn in her skates after a disastrous fall took her off the competition track. When Kat seizes an opportunity to continue her career as a pair skater with talented bad-boy partner Justin (Evan Roderick), she risks exposing a fiercely kept secret that could unravel her entire life. On and off the ice, Kat and Justin will face daunting odds, injury to body and soul, financial sacrifice, and even potential mental breakdown on their way to realizing their Olympic dream.

Efremova will play Dasha Glushenko, the sharp-tongued Russian skating coach who rules over Justin and Kat with an iron fist. She believes in Justin’s talent and will do anything to see him succeed. At first, she sees Kat as more of a business opportunity, but as the relationship progresses, she transforms into a kind of protective grandmother figure.

Hewson will play Dr. Parker, the super-charming and polished doctor that many of his young skating patients have a crush on.

Efremova had an arc on The Americans, and her recent credits include guest roles on NCIS: Los Angeles, SEAL Team and House of Cards. He is repped by Greene & Associates Talent Agency.

Hewson, whose credits include My Blind Brother and web series Cam Girls, is with ICM and Industry Entertainment.

Previously announced cast of Spinning Out also includes January Jones, Johnny Weir, Sarah Wright Olsen, Will Kemp, Kaitlyn Leeb, Amanda Zhou and Mitchell Edwards.
