Shocking Double Elimination Reveals Joey Fatone and Rumer Willis on ‘The Masked Singer’

Last night, Fox’s The Masked Singer gave us not one, but two shocking eliminations. In the show’s semi-final episode, the five remaining singers squared off in a night of power ballads that culminated in two unexpected unmaskings. Unfortunately, The Lion gave her worst performance yet and was voted off by an unforgiving studio audience. When it finally came time to unmask her, she was revealed to be… Empire star Rumer Willis! Talk about keeping things in the Fox family. Later, The Rabbit also fell to his competition, and in the show’s final moments, he was unmasked as none other than former *NSYNC member Joey Fatone. Was JT not available?

Despite the panelists being totally stumped by The Lion’s identity, viewers at home managed to easily figure it out. For weeks, The Lion has been giving us clues about her “famous family,” her “pride” of female pals, and her passion for Chicago, all of which suggested that Rumer Willis was behind the bedazzled mask. Willis is the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, she has four sisters, and she starred as Roxie Hart in Chicago on Broadway so… yeah. Good job, panelists.

The Lion has been consistently showing up week after week, but she must have gotten psyched out in the semis because her performance of “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout A Thing” was just okay. When you’re facing a double elimination ceremony, “just okay” won’t cut it. Towards the end of the show, The Lion was revealed to be the first star voted off The Masked Singer, but before then, the judges got in a few final guesses. Could it be Kelly Rowland? Michelle Williams? That other totally random person in Destiny’s Child whose name we can never remember?

Alas, it was not. When The Lion took off her mask, Willis’ face smiled back at the audience. Even though she didn’t win, being called “a white Kelly Rowland” is still a damn good prize.

Following The Lion’s unmasking, it was The Rabbit’s turn to be revealed. He didn’t impress much with his rendition of “My Girl,” so when his name was called at the end of the show, it wasn’t too surprising. But that being said, The Rabbit has been pissing me off for weeks with that annoying twitch — doesn’t his neck hurt afterwards? — so honestly, I was pretty happy about it. Peace out, Rabbit. You won’t be missed.

After an embarrassing showing for The Lion, the panelists redeemed themselves with their final guesses for The Rabbit. Nick Lachey, Kevin Richardson, Donnie Wahlberg, and other boy banders were thrown out there (including Fatone), and ultimately, that train of thought proved correct. When The Rabbit finally unmasked, he was revealed to be a very bearded Fatone. Masked Singer shenanigans aside, Fatone’s massive salt and pepper beard actually may have been the biggest shock of the night.

Who is The Monster? Is The Bee Gladys Knight? Why did The Peacock talk so much last night? Next week, The Masked Singer‘s three remaining singers square off in the show’s epic finale. Who will win it all? Tune in next Wednesday at 9/8c on Fox to find out.
