‘Breaking In’ Is Cinematic Proof That Gabrielle Union Is A Badass Action Star

If you missed Breaking In last year when it was in theaters, you can now lock all your doors, stay inside and watch it on HBO. And if you’re wondering why, well that’s simple: Gabrielle Union is why.

Union stars as a mom who is cleaning out her recently deceased father’s house with her children, when the next thing she knows, she’s locked out while they’re inside with robbers demanding they money they believe to be in the house. Clearly these men did not see the cinematic brilliance of 2000’s Bring It On, because it is precisely at that point that they would’ve made a mental note to never cross Union.

Look, I would watch Gabrielle Union sit in a lounge chair and knit, but that we now get to watch her (perhaps from our own lounge chairs) in action is simply a bonus. Because this is an actress I believe to be savvy in a lot of ways, and one of those is probably that she would know how to break into a house and save me (or, you know, her fictional children in this case) if she really wanted to. Between the running, the jumping, the hurling chairs, you’ll appreciate that Union clearly put everything she has into this role physically, and it shows.

And if we’re being honest, Breaking In might not change your life more than making you think twice about the locks on your doors, but it definitely will make you even more excited for the May release of L.A.’s Finest, the Bad Boys spinoff series starring Union and fellow on-screen badass, Jessica Alba. Union remains a strong and magnetic presence on screen — that you can stay in the comfort and safety of your home to watch her be great is always worth it.
