Lady Gaga Describes Her Oscars Performance with Bradley Cooper: "People Saw Love, and That's What We Wanted You to See"
Regina King won the very first Academy Award of the night, but Captain America actor Chris Evans may have already won the 2019 Oscars by being a true hero in a time of need.
As King rose up to accept the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her exquisite turn in Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk, she became a little stuck in her gown’s train, and a Marvel superhero came to her literal rescue. Evans, who was sitting near King, jumped up to help her stand and then helped her climb the stairs to accept the Oscar — thereby preventing the actress from suffering a fall Jennifer Lawrence-style.
It was a simple gesture, sure, but Chris Evans embodied pure chivalry in a way that we only see in fairy tale movies and, yes, Marvel superhero flicks. It also looks like Regina King was pretty grateful. We can see her mouthing, “Thank you,” as he aids her up the black and gold steps.
Twitter naturally lost their minds seeing Captain America step into the role of a real-life hero. Some tweets lauded the actor, some were full of swoons, and others were just…thirsty.
It should also be noted that Evans did the same gesture for Betty White at another event in the past. Keep it up, Cap. We like your style.
