Anne Hathaway Is Still Pissed At James Franco For Their Oscars Host Disaster

The 2019 Oscars won’t have a host — that we know of — but Anne Hathaway has already taken to social media to remind us all that nothing can be worse than the time she and James Franco co-hosted the 2011 Academy Awards. The Oscar winner posted a cheeky throwback photo on Instagram of the event, joking that “No matter what happens with today’s show, just remember, it’s already been worse. Happy Oscars!”

It should be noted that it’s probably not a coincidence that Hathaway posted a photo where she looks glowing and glamorous, while Franco is caught in an unflattering angle, eyes closed and all. Only a few weeks back Hathaway broke her silence on the experience with People editor Jess Cagle.

The unanimous opinion is that Franco and Hathaway were way out of their depth as Oscar hosts. Hathaway, however, gave it the old college try, and most people believe to this day that the obviously bored Franco basically set her up for disaster. Hathaway seems to agree.

When Cagle said to her, “I’m still mad at James Franco. He gave you nothing!”

“Hey, can I dish some tea?” Hathaway asks. “I turned that gig down and James was the one who convinced me to do it.”

“What was he, a practical joker? Was this an evil plan?” Cagle asked.

Hathaway said, “If he had turned around and said, ‘I’m pranking you right now,’ I think I would have been okay with it. I would’ve been like, ‘That sucks, but it’s epic.'”

Later Hathaway said, “When all the dust settled, I was just like, ‘You’ve got to be kidding me.’ Your first instinct is usually the right one and all the reasons why I turned it down, came true.”

So don’t expect Anne Hathaway to host the Oscars, or even buddy up with James Franco, again anytime soon.
