Meghan McCain Blows Up at Sunny Hostin in Screaming Match Over AOC and Late-Term Abortion

Things are not going well at The View without moderator Whoopi Goldberg. On Tuesday, a discussion about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and climate change devolved into a screaming match about the Republican-backed abortion bill, “infanticide,” and “doing away with the human race.” And to think, just a few minutes earlier The View‘s co-hosts were discussing the Jordyn Woods-Khloe Kardashian scandal. Simpler times.

The View‘s most recent fight began with a discussion of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who said in a recent Instagram live discussion that “there’s scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult” due to climate change. “It does lead young people to have a legitimate question: is it okay to still have children?” she asked. Ocasio-Cortez’s comments riled up conservative co-host Abby Huntsman, who is currently pregnant with twins. “It does concern me that there’s even a way to defend the question she’s asking,” said Huntsman. “There’s a difference in caring about our climate, which I would argue probably everyone in this room cares about the future of their kids and grandkids and the air they breathe, and asking a legitimate question about doing away with the human race.”

If you think that sounds slightly dramatic, you’re not alone. Co-host Sunny Hostin, who had previously chimed in to say that “studies bear it out what [Ocasio-Cortez] is saying,” fired back, telling Huntsman that she’s taking the congresswoman’s point to an extreme. “Aren’t you taking it even further than what she took it? She’s asking the question, and isn’t that question legitimate?” asked Hostin. “The Democratic Party should make this their platform. They should ask that question,” replied Huntsman. “Good luck,” she added sarcastically.

Firebrand Meghan McCain then shifted the conversation towards the recent Republican abortion bill, which she said would “punish any doctor who fails to provide medical care to a child born alive after an attempted abortion.” Continued McCain, “This is an example, when we’re talking about people having children, and just how extreme the left has gone, this is an example of that.” She went on to question whether the Democrats want to be “the party of late-term abortion, the party of infanticide,” a platform that she believes is “well out of the mainstream of where Americans are at.”

Hostin repeatedly tried to jump in to correct McCain’s misleading statements, but McCain wouldn’t allow it. “I need to push back on that,” began Hostin. “I thought you were pro-life like me?” asked McCain. Hostin said that she is pro-life, and that’s why she needs to say her piece, but McCain wouldn’t let her finish (or even really begin) her thought. “It’s disgusting. It’s infanticide,” McCain said over Hostin. The conservative co-host continued to say “ugh” and “that doctor should be punished!” until Joy Behar finally stepped in and threw the show to commercial.

After the break, Behar gave Hostin a chance to explain herself without interruption. Hostin cited legitimate criticisms of the GOP bill, but that didn’t stop McCain from getting in the final word. “If the Democratic party wants to be the party of infanticide, that is their choice,” said McCain.
