New Movies on Demand: ‘Mary Poppins Returns,’ ‘Vice,’ ‘If Beale Street Could Talk,’ and More

There’s nothing like quite like watching a movie at home. You don’t have to put on a look, take out a loan to afford popcorn, or deal with teenagers. Since the invention of the Betamax over 40 years ago, watching movies from the comfort of your own couch and pajamas has been a very necessary weekend tradition–one that continues today thanks to VOD! Whether you use Amazon Video, iTunes, Vudu or your cable’s on demand service, there are a lot of new releases out there waiting for you to discover.

The Oscar movies are out in full force this week now that you can rent Best Picture winner Green Book and purchase award-winning film If Beale Street Could Talk. Regina King won an Oscar for her role in Beale Street, and you’ll be able to rent that spectacular performance on March 26. You can also rent other big budget movies this weekend, including the Fantastic Beasts sequel and the steampunk actioner Mortal Engines.

What else can you buy or rent this week? Find out by taking a look at the collection of titles below, including a family-friendly Disney romp, a cutting political dramedy, a revolutionary World War II doc, and more–now available for you to enjoy from the comfort of your very own home!

Mary Poppins Returns

This follow-up to the legendary Disney film brought a whole lot of joy to moviegoers over the 2018 holiday season. Mary Poppins Returns drops Emily Blunt into the title role with Lin-Manuel Miranda by her side. This time around, the kids she took care of in the first film are all grown-up (and played by Ben Whishaw and Emily Mortimer) and require the whimsical assistance of one Mary Poppins. Colin Firth also fills out a divine three-piece pinstripe suit and sports a handsome AF mustache in this movie, which is really all I need to know. You’ll have to purchase the film if you want to see this stellar cast sing and dance right now, but you won’t have to wait too long to rent it. It could be available to rent as early as March 19!

Vice

Christian Bale totally and literally disappeared into the role of former Vice President Dick Cheney in director Adam McKay’s latest socially conscious black dramedy. The film was nominated for a ton of Oscars, including ones for Bale and fellow actors Sam Rockwell and Amy Adams. The film was mostly shut out, though; it only won one trophy, for Makeup and Hairstyling (which I mean, just look at Bale! That Oscar was deserved!) You can purchase Vice digitally right now and it will be available to rent on April 2.

Richie Rich

Forget the Marvel guys, the original comic book movie superhero was Richie Rich! His superpower: comically obscene wealth. Okay, hyperbole aside, adults that are exactly my age will feel a very real nostalgia pull when they watch the trailer above. We all saw this movie because Macauley Culkin was our age and he could do no wrong–until this movie. Richie Rich, which failed to make back its budget during its theatrical run, was the last movie Culkin made before Party Monster in 2003. Now you can relive the very last chapter in the Golden Age of Culkin for just $0.99 in iTunes, and that’s about how much you’d want to spend on this goofy kids movie.
