Twinsanity (2018)

Powered by Reelgood

A movie doesn’t have to be a Netflix original in order to gain a whole lotta heat with subscribers. Just look at Only Mine or Abducted in Plain Sight, two movies that captivated audiences in 2019 without having the signature Netflix “ka-thud” sound at the beginning. Now you can add a third movie to that list: Twinsanity.

Like Only Mine, Twinsanity is another female-driven horror/thriller movie from MarVista Entertainment, the production company previously known for turning out a whole bunch of Christmas romcoms every holiday season. Unlike Only Mine, though, Twinsanity is not based on a true story (although TBH, Only Mine isn’t really based on a true story either). So, what’s the deal with Twinsanity? Let’s get into it!

What is Twinsanity about?

Not surprisingly, Twinsanity is about a set of twins, Leeann and Celeste Hart, who run a yoga studio together. Things begin to fall apart between them when they learn of their mother’s passing and the usually meek Celeste finally decides that she wants to forge her own identity. That determination doesn’t sit right with the domineering Leeann, and her desire to control her sister drives her off the deep end (or twinsane, if you will). The film was originally titled Downward Twin, which you have to admit is not as catchy a title as Twinsanity.

Who are Karissa Strain and Katie Strain?

The Hart twins are played by IRL twin sisters Katie Strain and Karissa Strain. The Canadian actresses have popped up in a lot of shows together, including episodes of Murdoch Mysteries, Scare Tactics, The Odd Squad (“The Jackies/Invasino of the Body Switchers”) Reign (“Liege Lord”), Rogue, and Wynonna Earp (“Landslide”). They also appeared in the 2013 Carrie reboot as Lizzy and Nicki Watson. Separately, Katie appeared in two episodes of Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments as Nora Kendall.
