The Act has finally given us a glimpse into Gypsy Rose’s love life, and it’s as crazy as everything else in this true crime saga. “Two Wolverines” follows the wheelchair-bound but actually able-bodied Gypsy Rose (Joey King) as she goes to a sci-fi convention with her mother Dee Dee (Patricia Arquette). However, it’s not the costumes and wigs that hold Gypsy Rose’s interest. It’s one of two men in Wolverine cosplay.

“Two Wolverines” explores Gypsy Rose’s budding sexuality. Despite Dee Dee’s best efforts to control her daughter and her many attempts to avoid the flirtations of Breaking Bad‘s Dean Norris (one of the Wolverines), Gypsy Rose manages to slip away. The rest of the episode watches Gypsy Rose’s relationship with the other Wolverine, Scott (Joe Tippett), unfold over her secret Facebook account and hidden phone before culminating in a runaway attempt.

It’s the first episode to explore one of the main themes of this series and this case: few things are stronger than human sexuality and teenage horniness. But just how much of “Two Wolverines” is based on fact, and how much is an invention for Hulu? Here’s everything you need to know about Gypsy Rose’s first “boyfriend.”

Is Scott the boyfriend who killed Dee Dee Blanchard?

No. Dee Dee Blanchard’s murder was committed by Nicholas Godejohn, whom we have yet to meet. Godejohn and Gypsy Rose Blanchard originally met through a Christian dating site. Gypsy Rose hid her online relationship from her mother for years. The two would often text and webcam each other until Gypsy Rose finally arranged for an in-person meet-up. It was shortly after they met in a theater that Gypsy Rose and Godejohn planned to kill her mother.

In The Act, Nicholas Godejohn is played by Calum Worthy. Worthy is likely best known for playing Dez in the Disney Channel series Austin & Ally. However, his greatest role to date is indisputably in Season 1 of Netflix’s American Vandal where he played the lying Alex Trimboli, the most punchable kid in high school.

Is Scott a real person?

Sort of. The real Gypsy Rose Blanchard did start a relationship with a man that she met at a convention. However, the real “Scott” was significantly older than the one in The Act, and their relationship was more planned.

According to Michelle Dean’s “Dee Dee Wanted Her Daughter to be Sick, Gypsy Wanted Her Mother Murdered,” the BuzzFeed article The Act is based on, Gypsy Rose tried to escape her mother at least once before planning her murder. This happened in February of 2011. While at a science fiction convention, an unnamed man took Gypsy Rose back to his hotel room. The two had allegedly been communicating online prior to meeting in person, but their meet-up didn’t last long. Dee Dee Blanchard knocked on the man’s hotel room and provided papers that proved Gypsy Rose was underage. Those papers were, of course, a lie. At the time Gypsy was 19, though her mom claimed she was 15. The unnamed man was 35.

Who plays Scott in The Act?

That would be Joe Tippett. The actor has appeared in Dirty John, The Blacklist, and the short-lived NBC singing drama Rise. Fun fact: He’s also Sara Bareilles’ boyfriend. You can follow him on Instagram here.
