On My Block

After a long week, the weekend is so close we can taste it. If your weekend plans involve some much-earned R&R, you’re in luck: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and HBO are debuting dozens of new titles, including new series, high-profile movies, and critically-acclaimed television hits. Get that popcorn ready, folks.

You should have no problem finding something to stream on Netflix this weekend. For all the On My Block fans out there, Netflix is finally releasing a second season of the diverse dramedy, which follows a group of high school students in urban LA. Your favorite streaming service is also dropping highly-anticipated Bonnie and Clyde movie The Highwaymen, starring Kevin Costner and Woody Harrelson as Texas Rangers hot on the heels of the infamous duo. Not feeling either of those? Don’t miss the return of Drew Barrymore’s zombie comedy Santa Clarita Diet, which remains bloody delicious even in its third season.

HBO is also bringing the heat this weekend with new seasons of Emmy-winning comedies Veep and Barry. If you’re a Julia Louis-Dreyfus fan, you won’t want to miss the premiere of Veep‘s seventh and final season, which is sure to be a fitting end to the beloved comedy. In addition, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again — the third best movie of 2018, according to Decider’s list — will also be available to stream this Saturday on HBO. Mamma mia, that’s a lot to watch!

On My Block: Season 2

On My Block tells the story of four inner-city teenagers in Los Angeles as they begin high school. In a world of predominantly white-skewed shows, the Netflix series gives viewers a much-needed look at the lives of minority students, particularly the Latinx and black teenagers who make up the neighborhood. In On My Block Season 2, expect more drama — potentially even deadly drama — than ever before, particularly thanks to Jamal’s massive cash discovery.

The Highwaymen

Imagine a Bonnie and Clyde story told from the perspective of the law. That’s the basic premise of The Highwaymen, John Lee Hancock’s Netflix Original starring Woody Harrelson and Kevin Costner. The veteran actors star as Maney Gault and Frank Hamer, two Texas Rangers hunting escaped criminals Bonnie and Clyde. The notorious outlaws give Hamer and Gault the chase of their lifetimes, but if the Rangers manage to capture the criminals, they’ll go down in history. Will the cops be victorious, or will the con artists win the day? Watch The Highwaymen to find out.

Veep: Season 7

All good things must come to an end eventually. On Sunday, Emmy-winning comedy Veep returns for its seventh and final season on HBO. In Season 7, Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ Selina Meyer makes one final run for president, a dream she’s chased since the series’ first days. Of course, before she can reach the highest office in the land, Selina also has to take down Jonah Ryan (Timothy Simons), deal with her daughter’s new baby, and craft a best-selling memoir. Judging by those plot lines alone, it sounds like we’re in for quite a treat.
