As we race toward the big finish of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina Season 2, which it appears may actually be The Big Finish not only for our season but actually the entire world, a salute to Theo, who is low-key getting some of the best and most underrated lines in these episodes, including helpfully reminding Harvey of the “albino witch I killed” and providing us with the greatest example of noping out of a situation when Roz confronts Harvey about his “if you ever loved me” phrasing to get Sabrina off the roof. Shouts to my dude Theo: you are small, but you are mighty.

Trouble is a-brewing in Greendale, where Sabrina is trying to figure out how not to unleash hell on earth just by being her. Turns out there’s a prophecy that a shadow girl will make a mockery of Jesus’ miracles and then will go on to rule Hell at Satan’s side, which, yeah, with all the raising the dead and making the blind see, really tracks.

Sabrina and Nick go to consult Wardwell, who, again, “knows about these things,” and she hastily hides the monstrous Adam, whom she’ll task with killing Sabrina later. Sabrina shows Wardwell a drawing that Harvey made of the mosaic and Wardwell confirms that, yep, seems pretty apocalyptic! She’s disturbed to hear about Sabrina’s new powers, and flinches at our girl saying she’s not sure she can die anymore. The only solution, Sabrina says, is to get rid of the powers immediately. She suggests a Mandrake Spell, which will create a double of Sabrina that contains all her dark powers — and her normal powers too — that she can then destroy, putting an end to the prophecy.

CAOS MANDRAKE SABRINA

When it looks like the Mandrake spell didn’t work, Ambrose and Sabrina move on to plan B, to make a Golem out of clay from Sweetwater River (Riverdale shoutout, heyyyy, what up Jason Blossom’s corpse!), so they head out, blowing off Hilda.

Which is why it’s a little surprising to Hilda when an extremely chipper Sabrina in a different outfit pops up and begs for blueberry pancakes, but she’s definitely a sucker for breakfast requests, so she goes with it. She’s talking about how excited she is to be alive and lapping up syrup as if she’s a plant who just gained a human body and has never experienced the exquisite pleasures of brunch before. Almost.

Back at the church, Blackwood announces his rebrand: It’s now the Church of Judas and the rules are, wow, terrible for witches. Zelda, still pretending to be under Blackwood’s control, secretly communicates Blackwood’s ruinous plans to Hilda and asks her to talk to the Council. Unfortunately, the Council are on board with Blackwood’s plans — he can do what he wants, they don’t care. Not only that, but later Blackwood deploys the Judas Boys to kill Sabrina. He doesn’t want her to steal his shine. So now Scarecrow Adam and a few strapping young men are out to get her, great news.

When Scarecrow Adam does show up, Sabrina’s bathing. Nick runs in and fights him, pulling out Wardwell’s rib and powering Adam down. When Sabrina can’t heal him, they realize the Mandrake plot has worked, and she’s mortal again. No more powers.

Fake Sabrina pod persons on, first insisting to Harvey that he still loves her, dropping some grossly transphobic comments on Theo and telling Roz that no boy should ever come between them. When each of the Scoobies pushes back, and Roz has a vision that tells her that the Mandrake plan actually worked, Faux Sabrina freaks out and grabs them, ending in a flash of white. As it turns out, she’s buried each of them and is in the process of making Mandrake doubles of each. Theo wakes up at the behest of Aunt Ghost and busts all their heads, splattering awful orange goo everywhere. He wakes everyone up, but it’s not long before Faux Sabrina, fresh off murdering the Judas Boys who are on the hunt for Sabrina, shows up and starts screaming that he killed her friends. Whoops.

Faux Sabrina is weeping on Ambrose at home, asking for cuddles, which is a pretty telling sign that it’s not her. If it isn’t telling enough, the fact that real Sabrina blows in, having confronted Wardwell for leading her into the Mandrake plot and vowing to come back later and kill her, is.

Zelda has also revealed her true self, making Blackwood show his real priorities. Prudence sold her out on the twin plot after catching her supporting Sabrina and her followers, and baby Leticia is back in the picture. After Zelda holds a knife to Prudence’s throat to try and get the baby and her freedom, Blackwood mehs and is like, I’ve got two other kids, whatever. Zelda drops the knife and is taken to the Witch’s Cell, later to be freed by Prudence, who has realized her dad’s a real sumbish. She flees home, determined to take Blackwood down with her family’s help.

Now Sabrina has to face the scariest foe of all: herself. She convinces Faux Sabrina to dual her in the woods with pistol, but instead of turning at the count of 10, she spins and shoots at eight. As Faux Sabrina whimpers that it’s not fair and dies, Nick and Evil Wardwell rush onto the scene. The bad news is that by killing her double, Sabrina has committed the final piece of the prophecy: sacrifice herself. “That was the final perversion.” As the lightning flashes, we get a glimpse of Sabrina, queen of hell.
