Beyoncé’s ‘Homecoming’ Is Now on Netflix, So Time to Call in Sick

Attention Beyhive, this is not a drill:  Beyoncé‘s documentary, Homecoming: A Film by Beyonce, is now streaming on Netflix. You know what that means: “*Cough cough* I can’t come into work today. *Cough cough* I’m sick.” Trust me, just paste that into Slack, it will totally work.

Last week the singer surprised fans with a trailer for the documentary, which tells the story of her now-iconic performance at the 2018 Coachella music festival. The film features footage as well as interviews with the many folks who work behind the scenes to pull off such an incredible feat. This is Beyoncé’s second documentary, after the 2013 HBO doc, Life Is But a Dream.

Last year, Beyoncé became the first black woman to ever headline Coachella; and as always, the current queen of pop delivered something truly spectacular. The performance—now colloquially known as Beychella—was an ode to black culture, and specifically, to historically black colleges and universities, or HBCUs. The 26-song set featured some 100 dancers and was performed to a crowd of 125,000 festival-goers, not to mention the 458,000 viewers who streamed the concert live on YouTube (many of whom stayed up until 3 a.m. to do so).

The critical and fan response to the performance was overwhelming. The New York Times declared Beyoncé “bigger than Coachella.” The think pieces flooded in, the Twitter trends went wild and Beyoncé’s 2016 album Lemonade shot back up to the top of the iTunes chart, where it stayed for two days.

In other words, this documentary is a must-watch for not just Beyoncé fans, but for anyone who cares about modern culture. The Queen Bey was obviously aware that Beychella was going to be historic, and she had the cameras rolling. Now we all get a peek behind the curtain of an event—and a performer—that seems larger than life. So… why are you even still reading this article? Go watch Homecoming: A Film by Beyonce on Netflix right now! Go go go!
