Can someone check on Joy Behar? On Wednesday morning, The View co-host made an interesting (sure, that’s the word) connection between astrology and the anti-vaccine movement, both of which she described as “pseudoscience.” According to Behar, astrology is “made up,” and “it leads to these anti-vaxxers, which leads to measles.” Behar’s co-hosts didn’t quite know what to say, particularly when she added that “if your moon is in Uranus, you’d better get that checked.”
After stunning the panel yesterday with news of her forthcoming “S&M” comedy (her words, not mine), Behar continued her parade of weirdness today during a segment on the Washington Posts’s annual “Spring Cleaning” list. The list includes things like bacon, the phrase “double down,” and perfume, but astrology proved to be the most divisive item among The View‘s panel. After Sunny Hostin said she doesn’t “want to lose astrology,” Behar quickly jumped in. “I do. I want to lose that,” she said. “Astrology is pseudoscience. It leads to these anti-vaxxers, which leads to measles.”
Behar’s co-hosts were stunned by the bizarre comment. “Astrology leads to anti-vaxxers?” asked Meghan McCain. “No, no,” said Hostin. But Behar would not be deterred. “It’s pseudoscience,” she said, spinning her finger to make clear that she thinks astrology is kooky. “Did she just connect –” asked a totally baffled Whoopi Goldberg. “If your moon is in Uranus, you’d better get that checked,” added Behar.
In an attempt to prove her point, Behar brought out the show’s stage manager Brian August. August revealed that when he was in college, he was responsible for writing horoscopes for the university’s newspaper, and he just “wrote them to help [him] in his personal life.” That didn’t seem to convince Hostin, who shook her head and insisted that she enjoys astrology (and will continue to enjoy it!), her co-host be damned.
