Looking for another reason to be mad at Saturday Night Live? It turns out that the comedy staple had a chance to add the great and constantly hilarious Tiffany Haddish to its team and SNL turned her down. At Tuca & Bertie‘s premiere at Tribeca Film Festival, Haddish and her longtime friend and current co-star Ali Wong spilled on the audition and spot that should have been belonged to our current comedy queen.

“We met like 10 years ago in San Francisco. She was so positive, so sweet even when it was like the shittiest time,” Wong said during a Q-and-A after Tuca & Bertie‘s premiere. When Wong and Haddish first met they were both new to comedy and struggling. “I saw her the next time in New York when she had auditioned for SNL. Everyone around town said she killed it. She knew she killed it. And she was like, ‘If they don’t give it to me, it’s fucked up.'”

“No, I said, ‘If they don’t give it to me, fuck them,'” Haddish clarified to a round of applause.  “Yep, I said next time I’ll be hosting and that’s that.”

Joke’s on Lorne Michaels because that’s exactly what happened. Haddish went on to star in the blockbuster Girls Trip alongside Regina Hall, Queen Latifah, and Jada Pinkett Smith. The names of her three co-stars may have been what sold Girls Trip‘s first batch of tickets, but it was Haddish’s hilarious performance as the rambunctious Dina that made the film a must-watch and turned Tiffany Haddish into a household name. On November 11, 2017 Haddish made history as the first black woman to host Saturday Night Live.

Now both Haddish and Wong are embracing their crazy sides with the premiere of Netflix’s Tuca & Bertie. Created by BoJack Horseman producer and animator Lisa Hanawalt, Tuca & Bertie tells the story of two bird women best friends trying to figure out their 30s. Tuca the toucan (Haddish) is a rowdy, loud, snack-loving extrovert with a heart of gold, and her quiet and responsible best friend Bertie the songbird (Wong) is basically her polar opposite. It’s a zany series filled with boobs that run rogue, giant jaguars, and one surprisingly sexy plant lady. But underneath all of its craziness is an endearing story of friendship. As the series’ Tribeca premiere proved, there’s no better friend duo to represent these birdie besties than these two very funny stars.

“Boo yeah! I told you we were coming, girl,” Haddish said to Wong.

Tuca & Bertie premieres on Netflix May 3.
