Charlize Theron “Laughed So Hard” at ‘Borat’ That She Spent Five Days in the Hospital

Charlize Theron just can’t catch a break — actually, that seems to be the problem. This week, Theron stopped by Late Night with Seth Meyers to promote her new film Long Shot, co-starring Seth Rogen. The actress revealed that she hurt herself on the set of the political romantic comedy, but it was nowhere near as bad as the injury she suffered while watching Borat. According to Theron, she “laughed so hard” at Sacha Baron Cohen’s 2006 mockumentary that she hurt her (already-injured) neck to the point that she “was in the hospital for five days.” Wa wa wee wa!

While discussing her injury-prone past, Theron said that she always gets hurt on the films “you’d least expect.” Said the actress, “I’ve never gotten injured on an action film. I have always gotten injured on like, Tully, where I gained like 50 lbs — I herniated a disc in my back.” On Long Shot, her “head hit a bench behind” her while she was putting on knee pads for a stunt, and she “ended up in the ER.” Host Seth Meyers then brought up the Borat story, asking, “Did you throw out your neck watching a movie?”

“Not this movie. This was when Borat came out,” replied Theron. “I went to go see Borat. I had a pre-existing injury in my neck — I had a herniated disc in my neck.” Has any one human ever herniated this many body parts? I digress. “A few of us went to go see Borat, and halfway through that movie, I laughed so hard that my neck locked up,” continued Theron. “And like an ambulance had to take me to the hospital. And I was in the hospital for five days.”

That sounds painful enough, but according to Theron, that wasn’t even the worst part of the incident. “I didn’t finish the movie. I’ve never fully finished the movie,” she told Meyers. “Well, it’s a risk, now!” he replied. “I can’t believe they haven’t put that on the poster … That is the highest praise you could ever give a movie.” Theron seemed to agree. “He’s that good!” she said of Baron Cohen. “He is that good.”
