Meghan McCain Rips Sunny Hostin After Co-Host Diss: “She’s Not Stupid”

Don’t come for Abby Huntsman unless you want to mess with Meghan McCain. Monday morning on The View, McCain lashed out at co-host Sunny Hostin for correcting Huntsman during a discussion about Michael Cohen’s prison sentence. After Hostin, a former attorney, corrected Huntsman for saying that “people hire lawyers” so that they “get in trouble” for crimes rather than the people in question, McCain stepped in to defend her conservative co-host, saying, “She’s not stupid. That’s not what she said.” Hostin pushed back and calmed a potential blow-up, but the two remained frosty for the rest of the segment and throughout Rep. Dan Crenshaw’s lengthy interview.

The Michael Cohen discussion started off innocently enough. After moderator Whoopi Goldberg noted that Cohen will serve time in the same prison as Jersey Shore star Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino and Fyre Festival founder Billy McFarland, Hunstman said that the situation “would be the best reality show” ever. “Imagine putting a camera in this prison,” she joked. McCain was quick to remind the panel that “Michael Cohen is no angel,” noting that “he was Trump’s henchman for a really long time” and deserves to be punished for his crimes. “He had to have known” what he was doing, added Goldberg.

Then things got testy. “Isn’t that why people hire lawyers? So they can be that person in between the crimes that are ‘possibly’ being committed?” asked Huntsman, throwing up air quotes around the word ‘possibly.’ “So it’s the lawyer that then gets in trouble, not the person?” Hostin put on her legal cap and pushed back. “You don’t hire a lawyer so the lawyer can commit crimes on your behalf,” she said, laughing.

“No, I’m just saying in Trump’s case –” replied Huntsman. “I don’t think that’s what she said,” said McCain, stepping up to defend the only other conservative on the panel. “She’s not stupid. That’s not what she said.” Hostin turned to McCain and muttered under breath, “No one is calling anyone stupid at this table,” but before McCain could respond, Huntsman jumped in to clarify her point.

“I’m just saying if you are wanting to get away with things and you want that barrier of protection, you have that second man or that second person doing it for you,” said Huntsman. “A good lawyer would advise you not to commit crimes,” replied Hostin, putting a cap on the discussion.
