Meryl Streep Is Coming For Everyone in the ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2 Trailer

The ladies of Monterey better watch out because Meryl Streep has their number. HBO has just released the Season 2 trailer for Big Little Lies, and this season looks more scandalous, snappy, and emotionally character driven than ever before.

Based on Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name, the first season of Big Little Lies followed a group of moms who were all seemingly only connected through their children. However, as the series flipped between the criminal investigation happening in this show’s present and the lavish seaside parties that defined its past, it became clear that was never the case. In the miniseries’ final moments, Nicole Kidman’s Celeste and Shailene Woodley’s Jane realized that they had the same abuser — Celete’s husband Perry (Alexander Skarsgård). The season ended with the previously abused and typically calm Bonnie (Zoë Kravitz) attacking Perry and pushing him to his death in a fit of rage.

It was a tense finale to say the least. But what’s ahead is only going get more difficult. Big Little Lies Season 2 follows Celeste, Jane, Bonnie, Madeline (Reese Witherspoon), and Renata (Laura Dern) as they stop fighting each other and start trying to keep the dark secret that’s binding them together. However, it’s not the cops or detectives who stand as their biggest threat. It’s the late Perry’s whip-smart and intrusive mom Mary Louise Wright played by the one and only Meryl Streep.

“You were planning to leave him,” Streep’s Mary chillingly tells Kidman’s Celeste. “And you learned of his infidelity just 10 seconds before he died. Oh. You left that out too.”

You better believe Meryl is going to tear this show apart. The trailer has just about everything you could want from a sassy and vulgar cupcake insult from Witherspoon’s Madeline and someone calling Laura Dern’s Renata “The medusa of Monterey” to lots of emotional beach running. And before you ask, you already know the answer. Of course the whole magnificent video is set to Michael Kiwanuka’s “Cold Little Heart.” You can watch the full trailer in all of its dramatic glory above.
