Taylor Swift Stans ‘Game of Thrones’ So Hard She Based Her Single on Arya’s Kill List

Taylor Swift fans know the singer is a nerd, but did we realize that she is this big of nerd? Because apparently, Swift loves Game of Thrones so much that the hit HBO drama inspired multiple songs from her last album, Reputation. (That’s right, not just one—multiple!)

In a new interview for Entertainment Weekly‘s May cover story, Swift “came out”—and I’m still half-convinced she’s trolling us with that one—as a secret Game of Thrones stan. She binged the show in 2016, and the medieval family drama wormed its way into her creative subconscious.

“I didn’t talk about it in interviews,” said Swift, “so I didn’t reveal that a lot of the songs were influenced by the show.” Those songs included the infuriatingly catchy “Look What You Made Me Do,” which the pop star said “is literally Arya Stark’s kill list.”

I have to say, the lyrics for that song make a lot more sense now. I mean, “I don’t like your kingdom keys / They once belonged to me” and, “You ask me for a place to sleep / Locked me out and threw a feast?” It all fits! (No response yet from actress Maisie Williams on this revelation.)

Swift went on to say that “‘King of My Heart’ was influenced by Khal Drogo and Daenerys. It’s even got this post-hook of drums — I wanted them to sound like Dothraki drums.” But wait, there’s more! “‘I Did Something Bad’ I wrote after Arya and Sansa conspire to kill Littlefinger,” Swift said, adding that song, along with “Look What You Made Me Do,” are “very Cersei vibes, too. Daenerys as well.” So basically, you have the women of Game of Thrones to thank (or blame) for Reputation.

In case, somehow, you still doubt Swift’s devotion to the show, she did her EW photoshoot in a jean jacket decked out in Game of Thrones pins.

The singer professed that she felt “so lucky” to live in a world where Game of Thrones existed. Now, I know a thing or two about getting a little too emotionally evolved in TV shows—sometimes you just gotta project onto a fictional character to make it through the day! I’d assumed that if you have the kind of fancy-therapy money that Swift has, you wouldn’t need to do that, but apparently, I’m wrong. I really hope for Swift’s sake—and for the sake of everyone who wants another banging pop album from her—that Arya doesn’t die in the Game of Thrones finale.
