Woman Crush Wednesday: ‘Bless This Mess’ Creator Lake Bell Has Totally Outdone Herself

Woman Crush Wednesday is upon us once again and our lady of the week is a real bell of the ball. Let’s hear it loud and proud for the always incredible, Lake Bell.

WHO’S THAT GAL: Lake Bell

WHY WE’RE CRUSHING: Season 1 of Bless This Mess has filled up a hole in our hearts that we didn’t even know we had! All thanks to Bell and her talented team of creators we now have some new characters to fall in love with. In the series, we meet Rio (Bell) and Mike (Dax Shepard), a couple who inherit a farm and move from New York City to Nebraska.

As the star, writer, and director of the show, Bell has totally outdone herself. Not only has she created a great show worthy of binging, but she has also broken through the glass ceiling in a male-dominated field. Bell’s version of a small town in Nebraska is just so earnest and charming without ever seeming problematic or stereotypical. It makes us wish we could move there too!

Bell is, by far, the most charming thing about the show. I mean, yes those chickens are pretty darn adorable, but they just don’t shine as bright as Bell does. Bell totally rocks Bless This Mess on-camera just as much as she does behind the scenes. Her version of a city gal turned farm girl has been a pure delight to watch on-screen. While Bell’s character Rio may seem like she’s a little in over her head, she doesn’t let that discourage her. We love a strong and confident woman! And we really love how Rio brings a little city flair to this tiny town. We’re eternally grateful for Bell’s work on this show because Rio could not be played by anyone better.

WHERE YOU’VE SEEN HER BEFORE: This amazing lady is certainly no stranger to your TV. She has appeared in shows like Boston Legal and Bojack Horseman, where she voiced Katrina Peanutbutter. Bell even joined the star-studded cast of Wet Hot American Summer in both their prequel, First Day of Camp and sequel, Ten Years Later. Bell has also starred in her fair share of movies too! She played a leading lady Carol Solomon in In A World..., Meryl Streep’s daughter in It’s Complicated, and even voiced a tabby cat in The Secret Life of Pets.

WHERE YOU’LL SEE HER AGAIN: You better be pumped because Bless This Mess has officially been renewed for a second season! Bell will also be reprising her role as a cat named Chloe in The Secret Life of Pets 2. You can also catch Bell as the voice of Poison Ivy in the animated TV series Harley Quinn, set to premiere in October.
