Meghan McCain Spoiled the ‘Game of Thrones’ Finale on ‘The View’: “I’m Sorry You Guys Are So Triggered”

If you’re attempting to avoid Game of Thrones spoilers, you may want to avoid The View. On Monday morning, the ABC talk show devoted a Hot Topics segment to the Game of Thrones series finale, and it took all of two seconds for Meghan McCain to spoil the show’s ending for fellow co-host Sunny Hostin. After McCain (Game of Thrones spoilers ahead, and also The View spoilers, I guess) expressed her distaste for Bran, the new King of Westeros, and called the ending “horrible,” Hostin practically collapsed on the table, saying, “I’m only on Season 4!” The View‘s audience wasn’t too happy with McCain, but honestly, in her defense, what was she supposed to talk about during the Hot Topics segment if not the ending?

McCain, a vocal Game of Thrones fan, was quick to slam the series finale on The View this morning. “I spent eight years of my life watching this, and it was a horrible ending. Horrible,” said the conservative co-host. “Bran is the worst — sorry, that’s a spoiler. But he didn’t do anything and now he gets to rule? It should have been the Mother of Dragons.” Hostin threw her hands in the air and looked shocked. “Oh, Meghan! I’m only on Season 4,” she said. “I’m sorry!” shouted McCain. “I’m sorry, but it’s all over the internet! I wasn’t told I wasn’t allowed to say it.”

“I am only on season 4! I have been avoiding spoilers,” replied Hostin. McCain, now at the point of no return, opted to continue talking about the show. “As a dedicated fan who watched live last night, like everyone’s supposed to — it was terrible. I’m so disappointed,” she said. Turning to the audience, she continued, “I’m sorry you guys are so triggered by me telling you the ending. You guys are like genuinely upset. Why is this a Hot Topic then if I’m not supposed to talk about it?”

“Because I’m only on season 4!” shouted Hostin. “Wait a second, I’m only on season zero. I have not watched anything,” joked co-host Joy Behar, much to the audience’s pleasure.

Moderator Whoopi Goldberg said that she hasn’t “been able to go back” after the Red Wedding episode, to which McCain said, “I just assume that most dedicated Game of Thrones fans were watching throughout. I’m not the only one — there were like 48 million people that watched last night.” In a self-aware turn, she continued, “I wasn’t told no spoilers. And I wasn’t told I couldn’t say anything. Apparently I’m going to get the wrath of the internet when I leave. I hope these guys don’t follow me outside.”

Immediately after the show, McCain apologized via Twitter. “Don’t watch west coast if you don’t want a spoiler,” she wrote.
